Best Kansas betting apps

Mobile betting is the name of the game for Kansas bettors, so operators really gave their all in designing the apps. Clutter-free, responsive, and innovative betting apps with improved betting carousels, live streaming, automatic acceptance of line movements, and other options top my list and should yours.

Best Kansas betting sites for beginners

Kansas sportsbooks have made sure that the learning curve for newcomers is not steep at all. Lowering the minimum bet to just $0.09 as Caesars did, or offering a mere $5 deposit to get things started like with DraftKings, is how sportsbooks make novice bettors feel welcome.

New betting sites in Kansas

All six Kansas sports betting sites have been there since day one, and according to Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, requests for the remaining online sports betting licenses have yet to be made.

All betting sites available in Kansas

For a site to even have a fighting chance to end up on my list, it must hold a proper license from the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. Here are all of those that do:

  1. Caesars Sportsbook
  2. BetMGM Sportsbook
  3. DraftKings Sportsbook
  4. Fanduel
  5. PointsBet Sportsbook
  6. Barstool Sportsbook

Best Kansas betting sites bonuses and promotions

One of the most significant advantages of Kansas betting sites is that the state allows them to deduct free plays or other promotional credits from the taxable revenue, which gives them enough room to go all out on their promo efforts. Deposit match bonuses, Bet & Get, and bonus bets are among the most common types of bonuses in KS betting apps, and here are some that I find to offer the best value for money.

Ongoing Bonuses and Promotions

Even though promo credits and bonus bets are deductible for Kansas sportsbooks, that doesn’t mean they go around giving away freebies. Speaking of freebies, you won’t find any free bet offers in the full sense of the bonus. Prohibitions on false, misleading, or deceptive advertisements are some of the main tenets of SB 84, so licensed operators must offer full disclosure of terms and conditions pertaining to the bonuses. T&C pages are where I look for in determining the value of bonuses, and here are some of the best ones in the market.

Type of bonuses and promotions available in Kansas

Kansas betting sites constantly bring out the big guns when looking for new customers. An array of bonus bets, deposit match deals, and referral bonuses await new and existing users. To get a proper idea of the value of each bonus, you need to look for certain signs. Look for qualifying odds that allow chalk play — betting on the favorites. Also, look for restricted markets, if any, to see if the competitions or any types of bets are off-limits when using the bonus funds.

Below you can find some of Kansas’s most common types of bonuses.

  • First bet bonus: Bonus bets are a staple in Kansas betting apps, mainly as a part of the sign up bonus deals. When you register for the first time, make a minimum qualifying deposit, and place a real money wager on approved markets, you will receive the stake back in bonus bets. Caesars Sportsbooks, for example, gives you up to $1,250 in bonus bets. Note that when you bet using the bonus bets, the stake doesn’t count in the payout, only the profit.
  • Deposit match bonus: Kansas sportsbooks give first-time depositors bonus funds equal to the amount of their initial deposit. The bonus is paid mostly in the form of bonus bets that you must use as a whole on approved markets. Deposit match bonuses are also available for regular depositors, in which case they are referred to as reload bonuses.
  • Profit boost: Profit boosts, as their name suggests, increase the potential profit of a specific wager. Say you bet on the Chiefs to power through Denver Broncos. If the Chiefs win, the sportsbook may boost your profit by up to 25%.
  • Odds boost: Another form of bonus that alters the lines and payouts is the odds boost. You can expect KS sports betting platforms to improve the odds for a moneyline, spreads, and other particular wagers between 5% and 25% on average. Parlay boosts are a sub-category of odds boosts where you can get better lines for a prebuilt parlay. To see if these parlay boosts hold any value, make that same parlay with another sportsbook, and if the lines are indeed better, then go for it.
  • Parlay insurance: Parlay insurance bets are a lifeline when your wager doesn’t pan out as expected. Imagine placing a 4+ leg parlay on U.S. Open matches, and you narrowly miss on one leg. Fear not, as Kansas sportsbooks have you covered, refunding part of your stake as bonus bets. It’s as if the Kansas City Chiefs recover some of your losses after a surprising fourth-quarter upset.
  • VIP/Loyalty Bonuses: The sportsbooks in Kansas don’t just celebrate newcomers; they also value loyal patrons. Every wager you place, like the bet on the Wichita State Shockers to reach the Final Four, earns you Tier and Reward credits. These can be exchanged for free and bonus bets or to ascend to higher program levels for even better rewards. Renowned programs such as Caesars Rewards or BetMGM’s MGM Rewards offer benefits and perks to make you feel like a VIP at a Kansas City Royals game.
  • Refer a Friend: The sports betting apps in Kansas encourage camaraderie amongst bettors. When you invite your buddies to join in on the action by sharing your unique referral link, you both win. As soon as they register and deposit, both of you are awarded a bonus – the sports betting equivalent of throwing a successful alley-oop in a Kansas Jayhawks game.

Type of Bets Available in Kansas

The sports betting law in Kansas clearly states that: “Sports wagering includes, but is not limited to, single-game wagers, teaser wagers, parlays, over-under wagers, moneyline wagers, pools, exchange wagers, in-play wagers, in-game wagers, proposition wagers, and straight wagers.”

Since the law covers virtually all forms of betting, Kansas sports betting sites got really creative with the types of bets they offer.

  • Moneyline: This is the simplest wager type where you predict the outright winner, like backing the Kansas City Chiefs in their opening NFL clash against the Lions.
  • Point spreads: This bet adds a twist to the traditional moneylines since you’ll have to predict a team like the Kansas Jayhawks to win and cover a point spread in an NCAA basketball showdown. If the Jayhawks are considered favorites, the minus sign will stand before the points they need to cover. On the other hand, if you bet on the underdog, then their point spread will have a plus sign in front. Should they win or lose by fewer points than the indicated spread, you win the bet.
  • Totals (Over/Under): Here, you wager on whether the total score of a game will be over or under a point total set by the sportsbook. For example, the average totals for NFL matches have been between  39.9 and 46.5 points for the past 20 years. In fact, close to 4% of all games in the NFL have had a total of 44 points since 2002, which is something to take into consideration when wagering. In 2022,
  • Prop Bets: Props allow you to bet on specific outcomes like a particular player from the basketball team scoring the next point. When Caesars and other leading sportsbooks added Simplebet’s micro-betting product last year, they gave users bets such as “Will this next play be a rush or pass?” and “Will it be a first down?”.
  • Futures: With futures, you’re predicting long-term outcomes, like the Kansas Jayhawks winning the NCAA tournament.
  • Parlays: These involve multiple selections on one betting slip, where each pick, such as the Chiefs, Royals, and Jayhawks, must win.
  • Same Game Parlays: This type allows multiple bets from a single event, like betting on the totals and the moneyline from the same game.
  • Teasers: Teasers let you adjust game lines for better odds but smaller payouts, offering a strategic edge when betting on teams like the Kansas State Wildcats.
  • Round Robin: This style provides a safety net by splitting your picks into separate parlays, reducing the risk of one wrong selection busting your bet.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals may technically be in Missouri, but their fan base on the western part of the confluence of rivers Missouri and Kansas is huge. Add great college programs from the University of Kansas into the mix, and you get A-level sport teams to root for.

  • NFL: Everybody likes to cheer and bet on the winner, and the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs are that and more. Since the 14-3 start of the season, the team was set on cruise control throughout the playoffs, culminating the season with a magnificent comeback win over the Eagles at Super Bowl 57.
  • NBA: Kansas doesn’t have an NBA team, but their allegiance may lie with the 76ers of Philadelphia, considering that its leader and the league’s current MVP is a Kansas Jayhawks alumni.
  • MLB: MLB is hugely popular in Kansas because of the Kansas City Royals. They might not have won the World Series since 2015, but their recent trade of the infielder Nicky Lopez to the Atlanta Braves for their pitcher Taylor Hearn is potentially going to turn things around. He had a 3.66 ERA in 24 appearances last season, recording 54 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings, thanks to a mean fastball. Leveraging those strikeouts can prove essential for the Royals’ campaign.
  • Motorsports: The Kansas Speedway is home to two races from the NASCAR Cup Series and other NASCAR events, which make it particularly entertaining for the home crowd.

Features available on a Kansas Sports Betting Site

Kansas sports betting sites boast a wide range of features that significantly enhance your betting experience. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • HD live streaming — Kansas betting sites like DraftKings, with its DraftKings Network, 24/7 live streaming service, and FanDuel TV, understand the importance of real-time data in making informed bets. They offer HD live streaming, enabling you to watch and wager on games simultaneously, bridging the gap between the traditional viewing and betting experiences.
  • Superb odds — Most KS online sportsbooks offer standard -110 odds for spreads and totals, which also means that the vig or juice the sportsbooks charge for every dollar on each side is about $0.10. However, you can find an abundant choice of alternate spreads with different lines, giving you more wagering options.
  • Sports coverage — The selection of sports available on Kansas sports betting platforms is vast, covering over 20 sports. Whether your interest lies in popular leagues like the NFL, NBA, or MLB or more niche sports such as cricket, you’re catered for in the Kansas betting scene.
  • Live in-play betting — In-play betting is a popular feature in Kansas sportsbooks, offering an exciting way to engage with live sports events. With the added provision for micro-betting, you can place wagers on specific in-game occurrences, offering a detailed and dynamic betting experience.
  • Secure payments — Security is paramount when dealing with financial transactions. Kansas sports betting sites support multiple secure payment options like PayPal and online banking, ensuring your transactions are as safe as they are smooth.
  • Cash Out — Early Cash Out lets you settle your bet before the match is finished and save some of your earnings if things don’t look good for your picks. DraftKings, Caesars, FanDuel, and PointsBet, are just some of the KS betting apps that support this feature, with full and partial cash out available.

Sports Betting Law and Regulations in Kansas

Kansas lawmakers have been trying to push various sports betting bills through since the Supreme Court overthrew the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018. Their goal to finally stymie more than 60 years of illegal sports betting in the state came to fruition in 2022.

Kansas Sports Betting History

In 2020, the Kansas Senate gave its support to SB 283, a sports betting bill that would allow retail sports betting at the four state-owned casinos, as well as online betting. At the same time, an accompanying HB 2671 by the House was introduced that would allow 1,200 lottery retailers to offer legal, in-person wagering.

The Senate voted to approve SB 283, but the House did not extend the same support. An amended SB 84 bill was introduced in 2021, which was a blend between previously supported laws by both the House and the Senate, including the addition of retail partnerships suggested by the House. In 2022, it finally got support from both chambers.

Gov. Laura Kelly signed the bill into law on Jun 20, 2022, marking the start of legal sports betting in the state.

The Next Step for Sports Betting Regulation in Kansas

The current focus of legislators might be on changing the legislation. Namely, by being able to deduct promotional costs from taxable revenue, sports betting companies are able to avoid taxation. There is no news from Governor Kelly’s cabinet about potential actions, but stricter rules could be introduced in the coming months.

Responsible Gambling in Kansas

Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission requires all operators to display the Kansas Problem Gambling Helpline number and website ostensibly and grant all players access to the Voluntary Exclusion Program. Also, they must have responsible gambling tools in place and advanced systems that can detect potential problem gambling in their users.

Kansas Sports Betting Tax Rate

The tax rate for sports betting in Kansas is 10%.
