Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have emerged as one of the upcoming teams in the NFL. After a rough start in the 2022 season going 1-6, they finished 8-2 and weren’t eliminated from playoff contention until the second-to-last week of the season.
The offense was one of the best last year, scoring the fifth-most points per game, but they made several improvements. They rearranged the entire backfield by signing former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery and drafting Alabama standout Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th overall pick.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs will defend their second Super Bowl Championship in the last four seasons. All eyes will once again be on Patrick Mahomes as he defends his second NFL MVP, and he brings back many of his old weapons, including Travis Kelce, who is still one of the perennial tight ends in the league.
Since Mahomes became the starter in the league in 2018, the Chiefs have become one of the best teams in the league. Along with the two championships, they have made three Super Bowl appearances and have played in five straight AFC Championships.
Prediction
While they were one of the better offenses last season, neither had a premier defense – Kansas City finished 18th in points allowed per game, while Detroit was 26th. While this is the defending champions against a team that didn’t make the playoffs, this could still be an exciting matchup, and I’m predicting a high score.
