Chicago White Sox
The Baltimore Orioles will head to Chicago to take on the White Sox in this American League matchup. The first pitch for this game is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. eastern from Guaranteed Rate Field.
This young Orioles team currently finds themselves in last place in the American League East. The White Sox, who were the preseason favorite to win the division, are currently in third in the American League Central Division.
The Baltimore Orioles are a young group of prospects that are in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. While they have not had much success this season so far, they are playing the long game and hoping for relevance in the near future.
One of the struggles has been their ability to score runs. As a team, the Orioles are scoring just 4.03 runs per game, which is 24th in the MLB.
As a team, their ERA is currently sitting at 4.35. While that is not the worst in baseball, it ranks them 23rd overall.
The month of June, the Orioles have been playing a little bit more consistent baseball but are unable to get string wins together. They have a record of 9-9 in June but have only won back-to-back games twice.
Trey Mancini, one of the lone veterans on the team, has had a solid year thus far. He is currently hitting .283 to lead the team and has added six home runs as well.
Ryan Mountcastle is one of the best future stars on this roster. He is in his second full big-league season, hitting .269 with 12 home runs.
Dean Kremer is currently listed as the probable starter for this matchup. He will be making his fourth start of the season, currently at 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA.
There was a lot of talk about this White Sox team heading into the 2022 season. Picked to win the American League Central, the White Sox have struggled to get things going thus far.
The one positive to this team so far has been their overall hitting. As a team, the White Sox are hitting .254, which ranks fifth in the MLB.
While they are hitting the ball well, they are struggling to score runs. The team is averaging just 4.27 runs per game, which is 19th in the MLB.
The White Sox have won three of their last four coming into Thursday’s game. They are 3.5 games back from the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians in the standings.
Andrew Vaughn is having a breakout season for the White Sox in just his second full big-league season. He is hitting .326 with seven home runs and has recorded at least one hit in nine of their last ten games.
Tim Anderson, when healthy, has also been great for Chicago. The shortstop is batting .358 with five home runs, but the injury bug has plagued him this season. If Anderson can stay healthy, this may be exactly what the White Sox need.
Johnny Cueto is the scheduled starter for Chicago. While Cueto’s first two starts were great, both six innings and no earned runs, he has struggled in his last three.
The veteran starter has a record of 0-3 and has an ERA of 3.53. This will be his first time against this Baltimore lineup this season.
While these two teams are both in the American League, this will be their first series against each other. This pitching matchup features two arms that have not had a tremendous amount of success so far this season.
The winner of this game will be decided by the offenses. The Chicago offense just seems to be in a better place than Baltimore, which will give them the slight edge, especially at home.
