The finale of last season will still be fresh in the minds of most Lazio fans as they threw away a Champions League place on the final day.
Facing Inter, they had the lead in a game in which a draw would have seen them seal a top four finish but instead they conceded twice to lose the game as Inter took their place in Europe’s most prized competition.
This season is showing signs of a repeating pattern, albeit, not in quite so heart-breaking fashion. They had a great chance to climb into contention when they travelled to the San Siro to face Milan a couple of weeks ago but left with nothing, losing 1-0.
The 2-0 win over Udinese that followed appeared to suggest that Simone Inzaghi’s men were back on track but last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to bottom side Chievo has thrown them back into despair.
Three defeats in the last five has left their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread as they travel to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to take on Sampdoria.
