Arsenal and Utd Past Glories?
Arsenal v Manchester Utd used to be a game that decided who won the Premier League. This year in all likelihood it will decide who will finish 5th in the league.
In 15 league games since the turn of the year Arsenal have picked up only 23 points. This has seen them drop to 6th in the league. Their is a real danger that Arsenal for the first time under Wenger may miss out on a Champions League position.
Manchester Utd meanwhile are on a 24 league match unbeaten run. Their last defeat was the 4-0 humbling in October at the hands of champions-elect Chelsea. Since then Mourinho has moulded Utd into a unit that is hard to break down but on the parallel side also finds it hard to kill teams off. So whilst being undefeated for nearly 2/3 of the season is fantastic at no point have they challenged for the title.
Full Strength Teams?
Both teams are still involved in the latter stages of cup competitions. Arsenal have the FA cup final and Utd probably the Europa League final to look forward to. Mourinho has already made noises alluding to “playing the youth team” on Sunday. I am not entirely sure he will do this.
Would his pride allow a large defeat to Wenger? I think not. Rooney did not start on Wednesday and Martial played only 10 minutes. Smalling, Mata, Carrick and De Gea were all on the bench, and I would expect all to play a part on Sunday. Along with Pogba returning this shows the depth of squad Utd have.
Wenger meanwhile knows his Arsenal team must now win every league match. He has to hope others slip up to have any hope of a top 4 finish. There is no reason for him not to name his full strength team and I fully expect him to do so.
With both teams at full strength I expect them to nullify each other which suits Utd and can see a scoring draw.
My tip is Arsenal and Manchester Utd to draw which is generally available at 11/4.
For those wanting more value back 1-1 generally available at 13/2.
