Racing Post Atzeni Renewal?
Remarkably the last 4 renewals of the Racing Post Trophy have seen Andrea Atzeni saddle the winner. Atzeni is due to ride Martyn Meade’s Chilean. He is currently available ate a general 12/1.
It will be very hard to see him winning 5 in a row with Aiden O’Brien likely to have the top 2 in the market.
O’Brien Racing Post Trophy to Break Group 1 Record?
Saxon Warrior comes into the race with a 100% record. Last time he won very smoothly on heavy going at Naas. With all the rain around now this may well suit him. His previous win at 8/1 also came on Yielding ground which can usually be described as soft to heavy in the UK.
Of course if Aiden O’Brien were to win this he would overtaken Bobby Frankel’s record of 25 Group 1 wins in a season. Other chances will arrive at the Breeders Cup meeting next weekend.
His other main chance lies with The Pentagon. Since his disappointing debut at the Curragh in June he has won 2 from 2. This includes an impressive Group 3 victory at Leopardstown in July.
Likely Racing Post Raiders?
Jim Bolger sends over Verbal Dexterity which is likely to be the only horse I can see upsetting the O’Brien applecart. Similarly to The Pentagon he has a 2 from 3 record at the Curragh. Both of his wins have come on heavy going. The last win was when he turned over the 6/4 favourite Beckford in the Group 1 Vincent O’Brien Stakes so he certainly has the form in the book. He won that race by an impressive 3.5l. What was noticeable was that O’Brien for me had no “big hitters” in the race?
