Tuesday sees a crucial Premier League fixture. Leaders Chelsea take on Southampton at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham have closed the gap on Chelsea to 4 points so a win in this Premier League fixture is paramount. It was noticeable that Chelsea “dropped” or “rested” Costa and Hazard for the FA Cup semi final on Saturday and I think this was with an eye on this fixture. Whilst Costa has struggled for goals recently others have come to the fore, notably Eden Hazard. The 2 recent defeats that Chelsea have had (against Crystal Palace and Manchester United) both times the much fabled defensive back line had been tampered with. When they are at full strength they are still hard to score against and likely to score at least 1 goal against you.
Cahill is likely to be fit again after his illness last week and will slot back into the back 3 alongside the wing backs.
Goals in this game are highly likely. Southampton come into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat. They currently lie 9th in the league. They have little hope of qualifying for the Europa league or relegation. Their main issue has been at the top end of the pitch. They have only scored 37 league this season, making them joint bottom scorers in the top 15 teams. No player has scored more than 9 goals. Compare them with Chelsea who have 4 players in double figures. Chelsea also have the 3rd best defensive record in the league and I can see this continuing. I can see Chelsea coming out of the blocks and Southampton struggling very early on. For this reason I would see a game with a few goals in it but unfortunately for Southampton fans none for them.
I would tip up a Chelsea win to nil at a general 13/10 but for the braver amongst you I can see 3-0 victory for Chelsea.
The tip of the day is Chelsea to win to nil which is available at 13/10
