Trio of Stakes on Gulfstream Menu

A trio of stakes feature on Saturday’s Gulfstream Park menu. A field of six 3-year-olds go to post in the 6 ½ furlong Roar Stakes. The 6-5 favorite is Green Light Go. The only graded stakes winner in the field, he captured the Grade 2 Saratoga Special over this trip back in August. He followed that up with a second in the Grade 1 Champagne over a mile at Belmont in October.

On his 3-year-old debut he was third in the seven-furlong Grade 3 Swale here in early February. Despite the layoff, he should improve off that run and is the standout here.

The only other runner with a chance of beating Green Light Go is 3-1 second favorite With Verve. He won Gulfstream’s six-furlong Hutcheson in his last start on February 29. He has won over further, scoring in a seven-furlong state-bred contest here in February.

Green Light Go is the selection.

Fillies and Mares Go A Mile On Gulfstream Turf

Fillies and mares go a mile on the turf in the Powder Break Stakes. The overwhelming favorite is the 5-year-old Got Stormy. She is the class of the field. Winner of the Woodbine Mile and the Matriarch, both Grade 1, she was second against males in her last run. That was the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita in early March.

Looking to upset Got Stormy are 8-1 Silver Kitten and 10-1 Valedictorian. Both are likely to show early speed. Valedictorian has placed in Grade 2 and 3 stakes, and is a course and distance winner. However, she hasn’t won since taking the Grade 3 Eatontown over a mile at Monmouth last June.

Silver Kitten won her last start here, an optional claimer over 1 1/8 miles on March 27. Prior to that she ran second in the Grade 2 Honey Fox after winning an allowance, both over this trip.

Got Stormy gets the nod here.

Fillies and Mares Tackle Seven Furlongs on Dirt

In the Musical Romance, fillies and mares go seven furlongs on the main track.  The consistent Lady’s Island is the 7-5 favorite. Second in this last year, she has won eight of her last ten starts, with two seconds. She is likely to show early speed.

Second favorite Wildwood’s Beauty’s last four runs have been at this trip, her latest being a second in the Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie in March and before that a second in the Grade 2 Inside Information, both at Gulfstream. She also scored over the track and trip last September.

Wildwood’s Beauty is the selection.
