Glorious Goodwood Preview Day 1 Part I
Glorious Goodwood begins with the 1m 1f Class 2 Handicap. Currently there are 19 runners going to post.
Afaak trained by Charlie Hills is currently trading as favourite. He ran a fantastic race in the Royal Hunt Cup last time out and certainly looks the one the get past this time. Alfarris trained by William Haggis was unfortunate to get beaten a neck in the Class 2 Besso 2 at Sandown Park. This was on Good to Firm going which is likely to come up tomorrow.
The 2.25 sees the 1st class 1 event of the meeting. This looks a highly competitive event.
For me Dark Vision under Silvestre De Sousa looks the one to beat. Currently undefeated in 2 races I think the step up to 7f from 6f will be handled.
Confiding looks likely to go off favourite but with only 1 run and a shock win I think he may be a false favourite?
The Lennox Stakes takes place at 3pm. 12 runners are at the post for this Class 1 race. 7f should see Tip Two Win at his optimum best.
Roger Teal – Tip Two Win: “Everything is good. He’s going into the race in great form and we’re looking forward to it. They’ve had a bit of rain, which will take the sting out of the ground. Hopefully it will dry out a bit but hopefully it should be perfect It’s not going to be easy for him being the only baby in the race.
That’s probably the main reason we decided to run him over seven furlongs rather than taking on older horses over a mile (in Wednesday’s Sussex Stakes). He’s in good shape and having run well in the Guineas and at Ascot, it would be great if he could have his day in the sunshine.”
For me the main rival looks to be Sir Dancealot. Whilst he never got involved in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, he has come out and won the Criterion at Newmarket. He also ran an impressive race in Darley July at the same course coming in a creditable 4th place.
Glorious Goodwood Preview Day 1 Part II
The Goodwood Cup is the main race of the day at 3.35.
Stradivarius is likely to go at odds on. The colt won the race last year and has come back this year in even better form. For me it is a question of who to pick for the forecast?
The 4.10 is an interesting maiden race of 12 runners. I like the look of Richard Hannon’s runner Dirty Rascal.
Dirty Rascal has actually won a race but was demoted to 2nd. This shows he know what it takes to get there. In his 1st race he was an outsider who ran well to come 2nd.
The 4.45 is a 5f sprint that looks wide open. El Astronaute has attracted a lot of late support.
For me Pettochside looks very interesting. He has run here on numerous occasions and has won before as recently as May this season.
He also comes here off the back off a fine 2nd in the “Dash” at Epsom on Derby weekend.
The final race of day 1 at Glorious Goodwood looks like it could be a favourite backers manna from heaven.
Move Swiftly whilst having only run on the All-Weather thus far has won 2 from 3. She looks hard to oppose.
