Cambridgeshire Meeting & Racing Returns to Rowley Mile
The 3 day Cambridgeshire meeting sees some top quality flat racing at the HQ of flat racing – Newmarket.
I am skipping over Day 1 and focusing my attention on Days 2 and 3.
Within those 2 days there are 2 races that stand out for me. On day 2 there is the 7f Juvenile Fillies Shadwell Rockfel Stakes which is a Group 2 race. In racing circles this is widely seen as a pointer for next season’s 1000 Guineas.
This race has been blunted somewhat for me by the withdrawal of Charlie Appleby’s filly La Perlosa. She has enjoyed a fierce rivalry all season with the current favourite for the race Main Edition.
On the previous 2 occasions they had encountered each Main Edition had come out on top and it would have been very interesting to see if she could have made it a hat-trick. Unfortunately we will not get to see it here this Friday.
Main Edition comes here having won 4 from her 6 appearances. Whilst she was slightly disappointing in her last race where she came 5th, it is worth noting that she was still 5l clear of nearest market rival Just Wonderful. With Frankie Dettori on board and aiming for a hat-trick of wins in this race this is certainly the filly to beat in this race.
As mentioned above Just Wonderful is one of 2 market rivals to Main Edition. The Aiden O’Brien trained fillies form is a little hit and miss to me. Also I feel that 7f is not the ideal trip for her. Also Main Edition will have too much front running speed for her.
Again it is worth noting that last time they met over 7f that Main Edition beat her by 5l although both were well beaten on that day in a Group 1 at the Curragh.
Cambridgeshire Shocks in Group Race?
The only other filly potentially capable of giving the front running Main Edition a race is the Roger Varian trained Yourtimeisnow.
Whilst only having had 4 runs the last 2 have both been wins and fairly impressive. My slight concern would be that all of her runs so far have only been over 6f. However her pedigree suggests that she should get the trip with no issues. The market appears to be backing this up. Another notable factor is that Silvestre De Sousa is on board and he is flying at the moment.
Tip of the Day
MY TIP OF THE DAY IS FOR FRANKIE DETTOR TO CLAIM HIS 3RD SUCCESS IN THIS GROUP 2 RACE. MAIN EDITION TO CONTINUE ON AN UPWARD CURVE AND CLAIM SUCCESS AGAIN.
