West Ham will be looking to derail the Liverpool title charge in the Monday night football on Sky.
However if you are a Liverpool fan then possibly only Huddersfield would be your preferred opponent over West Ham. In their last four meeting against West Ham, Liverpool have struck 4 goals on each occasion.
They have won 4-0 on 2 occasions and 4-1 on 2 other occasions. In the reverse fixture this season Liverpool ran out 4-0 winners to get their season off to a flying start.
Only twice before in history have a team scored 4 or more goals against a team in the top flight of English League football in 5 or more consecutive games. The last time this occurred was in 1930 - 1933 when Arsenal scored at least 4 times in 7 straight games against Middlebrough.
In the Premier League only Tottenham have achieved this feat having done this against Stoke City (2016 - 2017).
On the injury and suspension front, Liverpool will welcome back James Milner from suspension. He will look to slot straight back into the right back role vacated by the injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Dejan Lovren is still out with a hamstring injury and fellow centre back Joe Gomez is still recovering from a fractured leg.
It will be interesting to see who is in the centre of midfield alongside Georginio Wijnaldum. Last time out it was Naby Keita but he seemed to really struggle. I think that we may see the experienced club captain Jordan Henderson line up in the centre of the park.
We could then possibly see the famous attacking three of Mane, Salah & Firmino be supplemented by Shaqiri giving them even more firepower!!
Perhaps they will get 4 again? West Ham must be hoping not.
West Ham to get hammered again?
West Ham will be praying that Marko Arnautovic returns from his bruised foot in time for this match.
Without him they are very reliant on Felipe Anderson to provide the creativity and flair in the team as well goals (9 in total, 8 in the Premier League). Unfortunately his last league goal came against Southampton on the 27th December. That was 6 league matches ago.
Since then discounting Arnautovic, only Declan Rice against Arsenal has scored in the league for West Ham. That is also the only win for West Ham in 6 league games.
Whilst they are only 7 points from 7th place in the league, they are also only 9 points from the bottom 3.
On a positive note West Ham have beaten Arsenal and drawn with Chelsea at the London Stadium this season. They are also looking to win 3 consecutive games at the London Stadium for the 1st time at 61st attempt.
Whilst Arnautovic may be available, Samir Nasri is one player definitely missing. He joins a long injury list including Jack Wilshere, Manuel Lanzini, Winston Reid, Carlos Sanchez and Andriy Yarmolenko.
With all those players missing and confidence in short supply following the dismal FA Cup exit to AFC Wimbledon and the 3-0 thrashing at Wolves where they did not even register a shot on target, I cannot foresee anything but a routine Liverpool victory in this fixture.
