Webber Retires and City knock Spurs for 6

Before we move on to the humiliating defeat Tottenham suffered today at the hands of Manchester City, we wanted to focus on the Brazilian Grand Prix which took place to day and marks the final race for one of Formula 1’s greats - Mark Webber.

After an astonishing 11 years in Formula 1 racing, Mark Webber retired in a very respectable 2nd place behind his team-mate Sebastian Vettel, also setting the fastest lap for the day at 1:15: 436. It was an incredible end to a superb career and was made even more memorable when Vettel gave his team-mate the podium in a final farewell bid to his partner and one of racing’s greatest ever drivers. We wish him all the best for the future.

With Liverpool and Everton drawing and United held by Cardiff, this match was always going to be a chance for City to break back into the top 4 after a few disappointing results in the season and talk about a way to do it! It took just 14 seconds for Tottenham to go behind after Hugo Lloris mis-kicked the ball and Jesus Navas fired home after Lloris managed to save the first attempt.

By half-time, City were 3-0 up and Spurs chances of making a come-back looked hopeless. After an hour of play it became damage limitation as City were up 5-0 and looked eager to keep pressing. Fortunately for Tottenham they managed to hold their ground and even got away a few shots, but on the 90th minute, Navas made it 6 in what seemed like an almost inevitable conclusion to the game.

Perhaps the only notable oddity was that the goal times literally mirrored each other.

Navas in the first and last minutes of normal time

Aguero 5 minutes before the half-time whistle and then 5 minutes after the whistle

Sandro 11 minutes before half-time and Negredo 12 minutes after the whistle

Unfortunately, this will probably be of little consolation to Tottenham though as they sit 9th in the table now with a goal difference of -3. Things may not get any easier either as they play the current Champions away next week.
