Today’s tip is for the Capital One League Cup Final which takes place on Sunday 28 February KO 4.30pm.
Both teams come into the match with a morale boosting win in Europe behind them, but I believe that City’s win was far more impressive and I think that they will want to avenge the 4-1 humiliation at the Etihad in November 2015 and also give Pellegrini the 1st of possibly 3 trophies as a leaving gift.
Liverpool are not the same flowing team with Coutinho missing and Firminho’s purple patch appears to have burst so the question is where are the goals for Liverpool going to come from? Only Origi has scored more than 2 goals for Liverpool in this tournament this year and they have only scored 10 in total in the whole competition.
When you compare this to free flowing Man City who have scored 16 goals so far in the tournament then you will quickly see where my opinion lies.
Liverpool are very defence orientated without Coutinho and Benteke. This does not appear to be to Klopp’s liking so I think that only a set piece around the box is Liverpool’s likelihood of finding the net. Kompany is coming back to near full fitness. City appear a far more solid defensive unit with their captain at the heart of the defence. Joe Hart appears to be a far safer pair of hands than Simon Mignolet.
Then we come to the irrepressible Sergio Aguero, can anyone see Liverpool holding out for 90 mins with him thrusting and darting all over the wide Wembley turf?
My opinion is that Man City will win the match in 90 mins and Aguero will get the first goal.
For the braver amongst you I think that Man City 3-0 or Man City 3-1 with Aguero as FGS is worth having a punt on.
This game has all the ingredients for a memorable Capital One final.
