Premier League Midweek Matches

Premier League Midweek Double

The Premier League returns in midweek after the FA Cup took centre stage over the weekend.

Whilst the main focus will be on TOTTENHAM v MAN UTD I think that the value may lie elsewhere.

On Tuesday evening live on BT Sport Huddersfield entertain free scoring Liverpool at the John Smith’s Stadium.

David Wagner’s team come here with 1 win from their last 8 league games.  They are also on the back of 3 consecutive league defeats.  They are even more grateful now for their fantastic start to the season where they picked up 9 points from the first 6 league matches.

Worryingly the goals have also dried up.  They have only scored 3 in the last 6 league games.  In this period they have been playing teams supposedly out of form (West Ham, Stoke x 2 and Southampton).

3 of their next 5 league matches see them play Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs.  I cannot see them getting anything from any of those games.  These are worrying times for the Terriers.

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from back to back defeats in games they would have been expected to win against Swansea in the league and WBA in the FA Cup.

The loss in the FA Cup has been somewhat overshadowed by the VAR issue but it should still be remembered that WBA scored 3 at Anfield to compound the defensive frailties that Liverpool have shown all season and that Virgil Van Dijk was supposed to rectify.

I expect them to rectify this here and win this match.  I anticipate a high scoring contest (as they usually are now when Liverpool are involved!).

BTTS & LIVERPOOL TO WIN AT 9/4 is the selection here.

Premier League Midweek Double

The 2nd selection in the midweek double is for ARSENAL to beat Swansea.

Whilst Swansea have improved under Carlos Carvalhal they will do well to put in that kind of performance twice within a week.

Under their new manager they have picked up as many points (7) in their 4 league games as they had in their previous 12.

However 2 of those games were against struggling Newcastle (1-1) and Watford (2-1 victory).

Arsenal have improved since the Alexis Sanchez transfer debacle.  Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to make his debut.  He will add yet more flair and guile to the Arsenal midfield and to their frontline.

Danny Welbeck is expected to miss the match through injury.  This may leave the Gunners short up front as Olivier Giroud is rumoured to be on the verge of a transfer, possibly to Chelsea?

However Arsenal should still have too much up front.  Added to that their midfield attacking strength and despite their supposed defensive weaknesses, I see no points here for Swansea and I expect Arsenal to win this game.

Premier League Midweek Tip

The tip is a double and I am going for BTTS and Liverpool to win at 9/4 and Arsenal to defeat Swansea at 1/2.

Cumulative odds are 3.88 (just over 11/4)
