West Ham

What’s happened to West Ham?

At 9:29pm on Wednesday 5th April, things were looking very bad indeed for West Ham. Not only were Slaven Bilić’s team losing their fifth straight game, but Hull were beating Middlesbrough and Swansea were beating Tottenham. That would leave The Hammers just 3 points above the relegation zone with 7 games to go. A few minutes later, Swansea eased a few East London nerves by losing 3-1, but West Ham are still at least 5 points away from Premier League

Can Tottenham really win the Premier League this season?

This time last year, a 3-0 win over Manchester United left Spurs 7 points behind league leaders Leicester City. The fans dared to dream. But two draws and two defeats later, they finished 11 points adrift and back in third place, behind North London rivals Arsenal. Classic Tottenham, the football world said. After four consecutive wins, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now in that exact same position again. Chelsea will take some catching but Tottenham look more mature this time around. So what

January signings

Just in time for January: The Premier League’s best reinforcements

Manolo Gabbiadini – Southampton (£17million) With Charlie Austin out injured and Jay Rodriguez and Shane Long out of form, The Saints were struggling for goals by January. Enter Gabbiadini with 6 in his first 4 games, including a brace in the EFL Cup final. Southampton really missed their new Italian hitman in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth. James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond need a clever finisher in front of them. Manolo is that man. Mamadou Sakho – Crystal

Alexis Aguero

Alexis vs Agüero: The Battle of the Sulking Superstars

Ryan Giggs was recently asked about the world-class players in the Premier League. The Manchester United legend chose only two: Alexis Sánchez and Sergio Agüero. The South American stars meet on Sunday as Arsenal face Manchester City at the Emirates. This could now be the final season in England for both attackers. But who will go out on a high? Arsene Wenger ‘hopes’ that Alexis will stay with The Gunners next season but Sánchez told the media last week that

Is Sunderland’s Relegation Fight Over?

Optimists will point to the maths. With 30 points still to play for in this Premier League season, Sunderland could even reach the dizzy heights of the top-half. But ‘could’ is the key word here. Pessimists will point to probability and form. The Black Cats are bottom of the league with just two wins since early December. Their recent goalless draw at home to Burnley felt like another chance wasted. After nine years of scraping through, is Sunderland’s Premier League

The Rise and Rise of Adam Lallana

Adam Lallana was one of England’s few shining lights during the disaster of Euro 2016. No, he wasn’t at his best but he also wasn’t at his worst either. In the frustrating draws against Russia and Slovakia, he was at the centre of England’s fluid new attacking game. And in the abject defeat to Iceland, the team certainly missed his busy movement. The main problem with Lallana was goals. But not anymore. With three goals in his last seven international

Wales Beyond Bale – What else is there?

2016 was a truly golden year for Welsh football. Reaching the Euro semi-finals was a remarkable achievement but was it a one-off miracle? Chris Coleman’s players think not but Wales could miss out on a place at World Cup 2018. In Group D, they sit four points behind Republic of Ireland and two points behind Serbia. A record of 1 win and 3 draws is just not good enough. Wales need wins desperately, starting tonight against Ireland. Coleman has his

England vs Germany and Lithuania – The New Faces

There were six ‘surprises’ in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad to face Germany and Lithuania: a returning veteran, a one-cap wonder and four potential debutants. Jermain Defoe deserves his first recall since 2013, and Jake Livermore looks a completely different player at West Brom. But what about the new faces? West Ham’s Michail Antonio withdrew from the squad with a hamstring injury last week. Sam Allardyce first called up Antonio back in September 2016 but he didn’t feature then either. He will get his opportunity soon.

Mouth-watering Toffees – How High Could Everton Finish This Season?

With Saturday’s 4-0 trouncing of Hull, Ronald Koeman’s Everton joined Arsenal on 50 points. The Gunners have two games in hand but they’ll be feeling more than a little anxious. And they won’t be the only Top Six team feeling that way. Everton are one of the Premier League’s in-form teams, with a 2017 record of seven wins, three draws and just the one narrow defeat at White Hart Lane. All of the signs are there for a very strong

Goals, goals, goals, top goalscorer

Goals, Goals, Goals – The Race for the Golden Boot

Who will be top goalscorer? Romelu Lukaku (19), Harry Kane (19), Alexis Sánchez (17) and Diego Costa (17) – the Premier League’s top scorers are all very familiar faces. Between them, they have hit the net 207 times over the last three league seasons. Enjoying his first year at Manchester United, Zlatan Ibrahimović (15) is the bold new contender in the race. Sergio Agüero (12) is the fallen champion who could still make a late charge up the charts. Who

The Iceman Cometh – Gylfi Sigurdsson

In the final months of the Premier League season, the relegation battlers look to their superstars more than ever to save the day. But who is the best player in the Premier League bottom half – Michail Antonio? Wilfried Zaha? Jermain Defoe? Jamie Vardy? Riyad Mahrez? No, my vote goes to Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson’s importance for The Swans is undeniable. With 8 goals and 11 assists, the Icelandic playmaker has been directly involved in over 50% of his team’s

Manhester United's happy days against Leicester City

Life Without Ibra – Manchester United’s Goal Struggle

Manchester United’s woes continue. This weekend, José Mourinho’s side travel to Middlesbrough. They are a team deep in the relegation mire. They have only two Premier League goals to their name in 2017. On paper, you’d say it’s an easy away win. But star striker Zlatan Ibrahimović is serving the second of his three-match ban for elbowing Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings. So where will United’s goals come from? Ibrahimović’s total of 26 goals is 17 more than the club’s second top

Hull City

Hull City of culture, seemingly not of football

What the Hull is going on? Hull City, Premier League  relegation candidates have sacked head coach Mike Phelan. This, just as the the City itself takes on the role of City of Culture 2017. Phelan was previously the former Manchester United assistant coach, There is no sortage of ironies, as Hull drift to the bottom of the table. Phelan has proven unable to halt the slide begun under Steve Bruce’s tenure, and when Bruce left last summer Phelan was handed

Swansea City players

Swansea to glide away from troubled waters

At last it’s getting close to decision time for Swansea City. With the departure of Bob Bradley, the Swans have two top-flight managers now in contention to become the club’s new coach. Almost either man could help lead them back from a shambolic run of performance. The current choice appears to be between the favourite Chris Coleman and Ryan Giggs. It may probably prove very hard for Coleman to prize himself away from his role managing Wales, irrespective of the

Gary Neville

Gary Neville leaves Valencia in short order

Gary Neville has vacated his managerial spot Valencia. He leaves just over four months after taking charge at the Mestalla. From the start the former Manchester United captain has struggled in his first managerial role. As a result Los Che have slipped to 14th in La Liga and dropping out of Europe. Finally Neville leaves the club having won just 10 of his 28 games in charge.  The club has confirmed that Paco Ayesteran, the former Liverpool assistant manager, will

PSG Demolish Troyes 9-0 to sew up Ligue 1 early

This weekend we saw an amazing feat. PSG won the French top tier with 8 games left to play. They have now put a 25 point gap between themselves and second placed Monaco. We also saw King Zlatan slot home a 9 minute hatrick. This could be one of his last games for club, with rumors of a transfer to either Man United (6/1) or LA Galaxy (12/1) on the cards. Just take a look at these stats.. By the

Tip of the Day. Football 5th March

The tip for tomorrow takes us up to Scotland.  I believe that \Dundee\ will be too strong for a Rangers team that will be without the fire power of their top goal scorer Martyn Waghorn.  Dundee rested numerous players in midweek in preparation for this tie and had a creditable 0-0 draw against Celtic at Parkhead. Therefore players will be coming into this lunchtime kick off fully refreshed and prepared to see their team into the semi final.  Rangers have

Tip of The Day. Tasty Football Treble 2nd March

Once again the tip today will be football related.  After last nights successful double I am aiming to go one better tonight and hit the bookies with a treble! So our first match involves \Real Madrid\.  They have beaten their opponents Levante the last 7 times they have met and Madrid have won the last 4 without conceding a goal.  They are generally available at 1/2 but the price is going fast. The next game takes us to Scotland and

Tip of The Day. Premier League 1st March

There is no particular horse that stands out for me today that is not running at very short odds so for today’s tip I am going to look at the English Premier League. There are 5 matches taking place this evening and I think I have lined up an away double that is currently returning at 9/4 but be aware the prices are coming down.  My two selections are \Everton\ and \Chelsea\ The 1st match is Aston Villa v Everton.

Capital One League Cup Final 28/02 – Tip of the day

Today’s tip is for the Capital One League Cup Final which takes place on Sunday 28 February KO 4.30pm. Both teams come into the match with a morale boosting win in Europe behind them, but I believe that City’s win was far more impressive and I think that they will want to avenge the 4-1 humiliation at the Etihad in November 2015 and also give Pellegrini the 1st of possibly 3 trophies as a leaving gift. Liverpool are not the
