Man Utd v Liverpool – Sky Sports 12.30pm

Man Utd to park bus under Mourinho?

Man Utd v Liverpool is one of the fiercest rivalries in World football never mind the Premier League.

I cannot foresee a situation whereby an Old Trafford crowd will allow Jose Mourinho to deploy the same tactics as he did at Anfield.  This culminated in them having 1 shot on target in 90 minutes and only 37% possession of the football.  It was only due to the brilliance of David De Gea that they escaped with a 0-0 draw.

Obviously with Man Utd now being at home the onus will be on them to come out and attack.  This may well play into Liverpool’s hands.  I have a feeling that Jurgen Klopp may even approach this game more in a manner befitting a European match than a Premier League one.

If Man Utd are to defeat Liverpool then Romelu Lukaku will have to come to the party.  It is well documented that his goalscoring record against the so-called “big teams” is not particularly impressive.  In fact in 12 games against Liverpool he has 5 games which is is his highest scoring rate against the big six teams.

The problem for Lukaku is that this season against the other teams vying for champions league positions in 7 games he has 1 goal.  This is not good enough for a striker costing £75 million.

Can Man Utd halt the Liverpool goal machine?

Liverpool will be looking to go above Man Utd in the Premier League table with a win at Old Trafford.  Only Manchester City have scored more league goals than Liverpool this season.

Whereas Lukaku has struggled to score against the top six Mo Salah is looking to complete the set by scoring past David De Gea.  This has been an unbelievable debut season for the Egyptian with 24 league goals putting him joint top with Harry Kane in the race for the golden boot.

Since signing Virgil van Dijk Liverpool have certainly tightened up defensively.  4 cleans in their last 5 competitive games will testify to that.

During that period the goals have continued to flow and Salah was on a run of 7 consecutive scoring games before the 0-0 game against Porto in midweek.  He will count himself unfortunate as he only came on in the 74th minute of that game and it was a dead rubber.

With Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane also chipping in with vital goals and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain now appearing to have settled in this Liverpool team certainly has a settled and vibrant look to it.

Tip of the Day

My tip of the day in the Man Utd v Liverpool match is for BOTH TEAM TO SCORE (BTTS) AND LIVERPOOL TO WIN THE MATCH
