The Most Improved Premier League Players So Far This Season

With 10 games gone, it’s time to reflect on a great start to the new season. But who have been the most improved Premier League players so far?

James Tarkowski – Burnley

When Michael Keane signed for Everton for £25million, everyone expected Burnley to sign an expensive new centre-back. Instead, Sean Dyche showed faith in Tarkowski, his back-up option. The former Oldham Athletic defender has done his manager proud, forming a solid partnership with Ben Mee. Burnley have only conceded 9 goals in 10 games and there’s now talk of an England call-up for Tarkowski.

Abdoulaye Doucouré – Watford

Last season, Doucouré made 20 appearances for The Hornets under Walter Mazzarri. The French midfielder didn’t do anything wrong, but he didn’t do anything special either. With the support of new manager Marco Silva, however, Doucouré has become Watford’s star man in the middle. His box-to-box running keeps the team ticking, and he’s also chipped in with 5 goals.

Raheem Sterling – Manchester City

Blessed with so much pace and skill, the only thing Sterling ever lacked was final product – quality crossing and finishing. But that’s all changing now, with a manager like Pep Guardiola and teammates like Kevin De Bruyne. The England attacker is on 7 goals and 2 assists already, despite coming off the bench in 3 matches. City are the most improved Premier League team and Sterling is one of the most improved Premier League players.

Phil Jones – Manchester United

Jones’ problem isn’t talent; it’s injuries. Last year, it looked like the English centre-back’s days at Old Trafford might be numbered but he’s really turned things around. Jones has started all 10 Premier League games this season, helping the United defence to 8 cleansheets. When he went off injured at Huddersfield, the score was 0-0. 15 minutes later, his team was losing 2-0. In the space of 6 months, Jones has gone from outcast to one of José Mourinho’s key men.

Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal

Like Jones, Ramsey’s comeback started at the end of last season. The Welsh midfielder had really struggled for fitness and form until manager Arsène Wenger changed his team’s formation. With 3 defenders behind him and wingbacks alongside him, Ramsey suddenly had the freedom to get forward and attack. This season, he’s already got 3 goals and 2 assists in 9 appearances. That’s a better record than Alexis Sánchez. Except for an awful performance against Liverpool, Ramsey has been brilliant for The Gunners.
