Carabao Cup - 1st part of the Quadruple for Man City?
The Carabao Cup semi finals take place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and are live on Sky Sports.
Manchester City are first up against Bristol City on Tuesday in the Caraboa Cup semi final 2nd leg at Ashton Gate.
Bristol City put many Premier League teams to shame by only going down 2-1 at the Etihad.
However they have suffered a dip in form in the league since knocking the other Manchester team out of this competition which has to be a worry.
Whilst still in the mix for promotion they have only picked up 5 points from a possible 18.
The problem they may have in this game is that the crowd will want and possibly expect them to have a go at Manchester City. This may well leave them open and susceptible to the well known attacking prowess that City possess.
However their strength I feel does lie in their attack rather than in their defence.
Bobby Reid currently has 12 league goals and had a few chances at the Etiahd to add to his penalty.
Goals are certainly not an issue for Manchester City.
Sergio Aguero will come here full of confidence having hit his 7th Premier League hatrick for Manchester City.
Interestingly though City have now conceded in 14 of their last 20 games.
I can see an open an attacking game but ultimately City’s class should prevail and they will run out comfortable winners of the 1st Carabao Cup semi final. I think 3-1 to City looks a good option.
Carabao Cup London Derby
The 2nd semi final takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Arsenal will be looking to take advantage of their solid performance in holding Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge.
That performance has gone somewhat under the radar with all the focus in January thus far being on the Sanchez will he/won’t he saga. Now that has finally been cleared up (apparently!!) all Gunners hopefully can focus on the players on the pitch.
With Lacazette scoring his first goal in 8 games (since December 2nd) Arsenal fans will be hoping that will be the first of many to come.
This also looks likely to be Arsenal’s best chance of silverware this year. Therefore the pressure is on Arsene Wenger to pick his strongest team. Saturday saw the welcome reintroduction of Ozil, Monreal and Koscielny.
Monreal ran the show on Saturday until he went off injured and hopefully he will be OK for this game.
On Saturday they destroyed in form Crystal Palace 4-1.
But the bigger question is can they do it again? And can they do it against their bigger London rivals Chelsea?
Chelsea are also in a team in turmoil. They appear to have been linked with every striker in the Premier League.
However like Arsenal they also struck 4 goals on Saturday and were their most impressive in recent weeks.
Eden Hazard looked back to his best in a more direct role.
Hopefully the game will be more open than at the Bridge. I can see Arsenal being more attack minded and think both teams will score.
However I think Arsenal need this victory a little more than Chelsea and in recent seasons this has always brought out the best in them.
I think the option here is Arsenal to win and BTTS.
