With the 2014 World Cup on everyone’s radar, Brazil continued their preparation for the tournament in impressive fashion by beating Honduras 5-0 in Miami. We all know of Brazil’s attacking tendencies and capabilities, but what was even more telling was the clean sheet playing against a very physical Honduras team.
Honduras managed to last for 20 minutes before inevitably conceding the first goal, created by a defensive error which saw Paulinho take possession of the ball to set up Bernard who then slotted past the Honduras goalkeeper Noel Valladares. The second goal came ten minutes into the second half, as Dante headed in a perfectly flighted Neymar free kick. The third came off of a shot from Paulinho which was kept out by Valladares, only for the ball to come to Maicon who took full advantage of his good fortune! Willian volleyed in the fourth from a cross from Hulk, who came on as a substitute for the talented star Neymar. Hulk got the final goal created with the help of his teammates Ramires, Willian and Robinho.
The 2014 World Cup favourites showed the world, once again, why they are to be feared and real prospects to win the World Cup in Brazil next year. Brazil, under the experienced coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, will have the hopes of not only their countrymen, but several millions the world over, that they can regain their former glory and prove to all that they are not only capable of blistering attacking football, but well balanced team performances which will bring success in major tournaments.
Brazil now go on to play their last friendly against, another 2014 World Cup finalist, Chile in Toronto. This will be another stern test, as Chile are a competent, well organised team with a solid defence and potent attacking forwards. If these performances are anything to go by, there is no doubt that the 2014 World Cup will be one of the most exciting every watched for generations.
