Champions League Quarter Final Goal Blitz for Reds?
The Champions League quarter final between Porto and Liverpool has the potential to be an all out attacking goal fest.
Porto along with Sevilla conceded the most goals in qualifying for the Champions league quarter finals. It is worth noting that Sevilla were in Liverpool’s group and that Liverpool put 5 past them in their 2 matches.
Porto were in a qualifying group that I perceived as one of the weakest. RB Leipzig had qualified for the tournament for the first time in their history. Monaco were a shadow of the team that had made the semi finals of the competition the previous year. Besiktas went onto win their group convincingly with 4 wins and 2 draws from the 6 games.
The issue that Porto will encounter is trying to stop Liverpool’s front line. They will not have encountered anything like it in the Primera league. There they sit atop with 55 points from 21 matches and are still undefeated. They have only conceded 10 goals but in reality only have 3 “real” competitors in the league.
Will any of those teams (Sporting Braga, Sporting Lisbon and Benfica) have the likes of Mane, Firmino and Salah in their squads? I think the answer is highly unlikely!
Therefore if Porto struggled against Besiktas (3-1 defeat at home and a 1-1 draw away) then I can only seem them having a long evening against Liverpool in this Champions League quarter final.
Porto like Liverpool have scored in every Champions League match so far this season. Porto scored 10 goals in 6 matches.
Liverpool though scored an astonishing 23 goals in 6 Champions League qualifying games including two 7-0 wins against 2 different teams (Maribor and Spartak Moscow)! Only PSG scored more in qualifying with 25 goals.
