Betfair Chase – Haydock Park Saturday 25th November

Cue Card to collect Betfair Chase Again?

Cue Card will be looking to emulate Kauto Star by winning the Betfair Chase for the 4th time on Saturday.

He will be looking to win it for the 3rd consecutive year.  If he is to do it then it will be without his usual jockey Paddy Brennan.

Trainer Colin Tizzard has decided to utilise the highly rated Harry Cobden from Paul Nicholl’s stable.  This fresh injection of youth may be just the boost that Cue Card needs after falling on his seasonal reappearance at Wetherby in the Charlie Hall chase.

He will certainly relish the testing conditions and knows his way around Haydock.  He is unlikely to go off favourite surprisingly and is currently available at a very appealing 2/1.

Betfair Chase Likely Contenders?

Whilst it is a comparatively small field of six I believe that 5 of the 6 have chances to win the Betfair Chase.

The horse likely to go off favourite is Bristol De Mai.  He comes into the race on the back of an impressive victory at Wetherby in the Charlie Hall.  He also has previous winning form at Haydock Park having won the Peter Marsh Chase on soft going in January this year.

His trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies will be full of confidence after picking up last Saturday’s big race winner and will be looking to emulate that again this weekend.

Tea for Two is a horse that interests me.  At the Betfair Bowl at Aintree he defeated both Cue Card and Bristol De Mai.  Since then he has only ran once, again at Aintree in late October where he trailed in a disappointing 11th in the Old Roan.  I think he may well have needed this race and will come on well for it.

Interestingly Traffic Fluide was also in that race and came a very creditable 4th.  He has not won a race since March 2015.  He always seems to find other horses too good since the step up in class and I think this may be the case again here.

Gordon Elliott is sending over Outlander from Ireland to have a crack at this.  Until his win at Down Royal in early November his form looked patchy.  However if he manages to retain that form and with the outstanding Jack Kennedy on board he certainly stands a great chance.

Tip of the Day

My tip to win the Betfair Chase and share the record for wins is CUE CARD.

He is generally available at 2/1 with most bookmakers.
