Aintree – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

Aintree Saturday Racing is Back!

Tomorrow sees the first Aintree Saturday meeting of the season.  With the November handicap taking place at Doncaster it finally feels like the jumps season is taking over now from the flat and we are approaching mid-November!

The going tomorrow is expected to be Good to Soft - Good in places therefore the classier horses in the races should come to the fore.

There are 3 stand out races for me tomorrow.  The Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle at 1.40.  The Rugby Betting Handicap Chase at 2.15 and the Read Noel Fehily Hurdle at 2.50.  All are Class 2 affairs.

Aintree Runner Assessment Part 1

All the trainers you would expect to have runners have a runner here.

Paul Nicholls sends Winningtry.  Last time out the horse was hampered at the start of the race and this surely affected him.  Previously his form was strong with him being placed in all previous 6 starts and winning 3 of those.  Stamina should not be an issue here as his last 2 runs have been over 3 miles and he won a strong Class 3 event at Ayr in April.  He is also lightly weighted here and I think is a very interesting contender.

Jonjo O’Neill has a gelding named Forza Milan.  Similarly to Winnigtry he was disappointing on his seasonal reappearance.  He trailed in 6 of 11 runners in what I feel was not a particularly strong race.  I also think that the distance may have been too much for him and am slightly surprised at him stepping up to 3 miles.

Aintree Runner Assessment Part 2

Philip Hobbs trains Louis Vac Pouch.  This is another who probably will come on for their opening run this season.  Towards the end of last season this gelding was in fine form.  He won 3 of his last 4 race but did fall at Sedgefield.  This is another horse who I am not sure will go the distance as the furthest they have run previously is 2m 4f.

Nicky Henderson is sending an interesting horse over to Aintree.  Vyta Du Roc spent most of last season chasing.  He only ran 1 race over hurdles and that was at Aintree in the corresponding meeting but in the following race.  He came 3rd of 4 runners but was a very distant 3rd and only 3 finished.  Stamina will be of no concern with this horse.  I am concerned about whether he can adjust to the hurdles after being chasing all season.

Harry Skelton is running Earthmoves.  This horse is one of the few in the race who continued to race throughout the summer.  He has won 3 of his last 5 race so comes here in good form.  Again he is another who is coming here though having predominantly chased.  His last hurdle win was back in March 2015 so this does not fill me with confidence.

Aintree Tip of The Day

My Aintree Pertemps Network Hurdle Tip is for WINNINGTRY to win.
