NY Red Bulls @ DC United / MLS 2022 Prediction and Preview

DC United hosts New York Red Bulls at the Audi Field in an MLS clash this Saturday. Check out our expert prediction for the game, along with a preview and odds.

Both the Red Bulls and United have played badly lately. They are in a series of losses, and what is more important, without proper chemistry on the field. Both head coaches have to do something to change this; otherwise, the future won’t be bright for either side.

The team from the Big Apple has enormous problems with its defense, and for the moment, it seems that the Bulls are slowly losing pace with the top teams in the Eastern Conference. On the other hand, we have the sorry United, who has been in the hole for a while, and despite bringing in Wayne Rooney, they didn’t make any improvements.

New York Red Bulls Overview

The Bulls have three straight defeats and only one win in the past six games. One of the losses was against Barcelona in a friendly international, 0-2, so we might as well write off that one. However, defeats to Orlando City in the US Open cup and the most recent against the Colorado Rapids at home in the MLS are very, very painful.

In both of those events, the Bulls allowed five goals apiece. Yes, you’ve read it right, five goals – Orlando smashed them 5-1, while the Rapids left the Big Apple with a 4-5 victory. The defense has been terrible lately, and even the win over Austin on the road saw NYRB allowing three hits.

A logical consequence here is that the Bulls’ games are efficient, three of the previous four seeing six or more goals, with both units netting. It is a change from a few weeks ago, once RB’s events didn’t see such high efficiency.

The only player who won’t be eligible to play for the guests is Lucas Monzon.

DC United Overview

Wayne Rooney couldn’t lead his United to another victory following a win over Orlando City last weekend. DC was routinely beaten in Charlotte, 3-0, not having the slightest chances of endangering the hosts and earning a more positive result.

Once again, we saw a terrible defensive effort of the United’s players, who allowed two or more goals for the eighth time in the past nine games. The back line conceded at least three hits on five occasions during this stretch. Rooney needs to either change the formula or find new players for that part of the team because there is no way for United to improve under current circumstances.

DC didn’t win in six consecutive MLS games at home until last weekend, once Rooney’s squad defeated Orlando City, 2-1. The fun fact is that their previous victory also happened against Orlando only on the road.

The hosts have several injured players, Bill Hamid, Adrien Perez, and Bradley Smith, who are out for sure. Meanwhile, Russell Canouse and Theodore Ku-DiPietro are questionable.

Chicago Fire @ Charlotte Prediction

As you can see, the respective defenses are terrible, while on the other hand, the attacking lines are giving some signs of life. DC often scores at home; that is, they’ve managed to hit the back of the net in the last six events at Audi Field. But they have just one clean sheet in the recent ten contests there.

That’s why we pick both teams to score here. New York has enough quality to deliver at least one goal, especially against a poor and lousy back line like United’s. Though, we have to agree that the Bulls’ defense isn’t any better in the past two, three weeks.

Because of all this, both teams netting at Audi Field looks like the safest and the most logical pick.
