Turkey – Euro 2024 Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Turkey have developed into a respected football nation. At club level, teams such as Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbah\u00e7e have excelled n European competition, while the national team has reached the semi-finals of Euro 2008 and won bronze at the World Cup 2002. Familiar names such as Hakan \u015e\u00fck\u00fcr and Arda Turan have contributed to the country’s success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the national team has experienced a difficult period recently. However, Turkey finished ahead of Croatia to win their qualifying group, and this, along with some promising Nations League performances, suggest that things may be on the up for the Turks. Overall the future of Turkish football looks promising with continued investments being made in youth development, which is expected to keep the country competitive both at club and national team level for a number of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey, were drawn in Group F with the Czech Republic , Portugal and the playoff winners from Path C. Italian Vincenzo Montella has been in charge since 2023. During his coaching career, Montella has been at several Serie A clubs such as Milan and Sampdoria. The last club side he coached was Adana Demirspor in the Turkish top league.<\/p>\n\n\n

How Turkey qualified for the Euro 2024<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Turkey qualified for the Euro 2024 finals in Germany by winning their European Championship qualifying group ahead of Croatia<\/a> , Wales, Armenia and Latvia. They recorded five wins, two draws and one defeat, scoring 14 goals and conceding seven. The Turks dropped points in the home and away ties against Croatia and away to Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team’s 14 goals were scored by twelve different players, deonstrating that they are a team who can share the goals around. Kerem Akt\u00fcrko\u011flu and Cenk Tosun were joint top scorers with two goals each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey’s Euro 2024 squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Turkish Euro 2024 squad consists mostly of players from S\u00fcper Lig, Turkey’s top domestic league. Despite the fact that there are a lot of players who are valued around 10-20 million euros according to the German Transfermarkt, Turkey are in the bottom half in terms of player value from the nations who have made the finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most valued are Ferdi Kad\u0131o\u011flu, Fenerbahce and Kerem Akt\u00fcrko\u011flu, whose market value is 20 and 17 million euros respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Montella, who took over from the German Stefan Kuntz, is Turkey’s first Italian national team boss since 1965-66 when Sandro Puppo was in charge. The 49-year-old Italian is known for implementing a playing philosophy that focuses on technically skilled players, quick passing and an offensively oriented style of play. He has previously emphasised the importance of playing attractive and entertaining football, while striving to create a balanced team with both defensive and attacking qualities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because Montella’s focus is on attacking, his team can sometimes be vulnerable to quick turnovers and counter-attacks, something that the group opponents will look to exploit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
