France \u2013 Euro 2024 Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

France, along with England, are the early favourites and the two sides could meet in the semi finals should both win their groups and then negotiate the round of 16 and the quarterfinals. However, despite the quality which the French possess, there is a lot of work to be done before Didier Deschamps’ side reach this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First of all, they must successfully negotiate Group D<\/a>, where Austria<\/a> ,<\/a> the Netherlands<\/a> and the playoff winners from Path A, Poland<\/a>, await. From 1996 onwards, Les Blues have an impressive record in the Euros and the World Cup, to say the least, with one European Championship medal of each denomination and two World Cup wins along with one runners up spot.  After the disappointment of their round of 16 exit in 2020, France will hope to be there or thereabouts in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How France qualified for Euro 2024<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The French glided through European Championship qualification with relative ease, only dropping points in one match. With an unbeaten record, seven wins and a draw from eight games, France had the second best record of all teams in the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, behind Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The road to the Euros in Germany was via double wins against Greece, Ireland and Gibraltar, as well as a win and a draw against the Netherlands. The home match against Gibraltar saw history made as Deschamp’s side rattled in 14 goals without reply to record the biggest ever victory in a European Championship qualifier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kylian Mpabb\u00e9 was France’s top scorer  The PSG striker banged in nine goals and contributed seven assists. Mbappe’s 16 direct goal contributions were more than any other player managed in the qualifyiing campaign. He is a leading contender for the tournament’s golden boot and will be a good bet for topping the assists totals and the direct goalscoring contributions standings. <\/p>\n\n\n

France European Championship squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

France will be the big favourites in Group D. They have consistently had great success in both the World Cup and European Championships recently and in Qatar they came very close to winning another World Cup. Since Didier Deschamps took over “Les Blues” in 2012, one success has followed another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the current squad, there are a lot of players of the highest class. Offensively, Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 is undoubtably one of the world’s best strikers. In addition to Mbapp\u00e9, they boast stars such as Kinsley Coman, Antoine Griezmann and Th\u00e9o Hernandez. The depth of the French squad is extremely impressive and Deschamps has plenty of choice as he looks to find a winning formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

France generally line up in a 4 2 3 1 formation and base their strategy around progressive play through the middle. Their wide forwards, expecially Mbappe are well covered so they can concentrate on causing the opposition problems rather than tracking back. Mbappe usually operates in his favoured wide left position, where he can cut inside to shoot on his right foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
