Slovenia \u2013 Euro 2024 Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Slovenia men’s national football team, may not be the most talked about of international sides, however, they are respected as a well organised team who have produced some very good players down the years, including attacking midfielder Zlatko Zahovi\u010d and goalkeeper Samir Handanovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slovenia have achieved some success on the international stage, qualifying for several international tournaments such as the Euros. Their best and only performance in the European Championship finals came in 2000 when they reached the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, Slovenia are continuing to develop their national team and seek new talent to strengthen their position in international football. With a strong team ethic and a growing talent pool, Slovenia can continue compete on the global and European stage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Euro 2024 Slovenia have been drawn against England<\/a>, Denmark <\/a>and Serbia<\/a> in Group C<\/a>. All three nations are ranked higher than the Slovenians. However, as Denmark, who were in the same qualification group as Slovenia, will testify, they are well organised, hard to break down and capable of causing an upset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Slovenia qualified for Euro 2024<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Slovenia placed second in European Championship qualifying group H behind Denmark, despite having the same number of points and better goal difference than the Danes. Denmark, however, were better in the head-to-head meetings, which placed them at the top of the group.  In 10 matches, Slovenia won seven, drew one and lost two, scoring 20 and conceding nine. Leipzig’s Benjamin \u0160e\u0161ko top scored for the Slovenians in qualifying with five goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slovenia’s European Championship squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Slovenia’s European Championship squad may not be packed with superstars, but they are techically and tactically good and are well drilled. They are greater than the sum of their parts. Atletico Madrid’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak is their brightest star and an experienced international. Oblak is just part of the reason for his country’s strong defence. Petar Stojanovi\u0107, Jaka Bijol and Miha Bla\u017ei\u010d are solid defenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The experienced Jasmin Kurti\u0107 is still a key man and the attack is given a cutting edge by the young and promising \u0160e\u0161ko and Andra\u017e \u0160porar of Panathinaikos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matja\u017e Kek is in his seventh year in charge of the Slovenian national side and is known to be a coach who has his teams well drilled and set up to be solid. They are hard to break down, however, when in possession they can find ways to hurt teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kek’s flexibility and adaptability allow him to adapt to different opponents and situations, while prioritising the development of young talent within his team. By integrating these principles, Kek has managed to achieve success as a coach at both national and international levels. Before taking over the Slovenian national team, he was the head coach of Rijeka and before that Al-Ittihad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
