Hungary: Euro 2024 Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hungary are in Group A <\/a>alongside hosts Germany<\/a>, Scotland<\/a> and Switzerland<\/a>. They qualified for their third successive Euros in commanding fashion and will be looking to make a serious tilt at winning the group. They drew with Germany at Euro 2020 and thoroughly outplayed England in their Nations League clash. They are capable of mixing it with the best on their day and should not be underestimated. How Hungary qualified for the Euros<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hungary remained unbeaten in the qualifying campaign, winning five matches and drawing three to finish four points clear of Serbia. They scored 16 goals and conceded seven. Dominik Szoboszlai and Barnabas Varga were both on target four times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hungary Euro 2024 Squad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hungary generally employ a back three, with wing-backs and two central midfielders. They use Liverpool midfielder Szoboszlai either behind a front two, or behind a central striker with another attacking player or wide forward. The shape is either 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-3-1. Szoboszlai is captain and is a key playmaker who can also be relied upon to chip in with goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A number of players, including goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi featured in Euro 2020. Hungary exited in the group stage three years ago (the tournament was played in 2021 due to COVID). Szoboszlai missed Euro 2020 with injury. Hungaryfailed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Players <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Szoboszlai, of Liverpool, is a versatile player. He is able to play as a box-to-box midfielder, right midfielder or attacking midfielder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He received his first call up to the senior Hungary squad for the friendly match against Russia and 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification against Andorra in June 2017, making his debut for the senior squad on 21 March 2019 in a Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia He scored his first international goal against the same opponent, Slovakia, in the same UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying play-offs game against Iceland, he scored a last minute winner to send Hungary into Euro 2020 but withdrew from the tournament with injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RB Leipzig Goalkeeper Gul\u00e1csi is a key man in terms of his performances and, as vice-captain his influence. Ferencv\u00e1ros forward Vega scored four times during the qualifying campaign and provides a threat up front.<\/p>\n\n\n

Hungary Odds at Euro 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing, Hungary are 80\/1 outsiders to win the tournament and 13\/2 to win Group A with bet365, I feel that the bookies have got things right. Hungary are a good solid team, capable of upsetting the best, and, in Szoboszlia, a versatile, exciting attacking midfielder who can make a difference in the attacking third. If the Liverpool man hits form, Hungary could be worth backing to get out of the group and, possibly to reach the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
