Scotland: Euro 2024 Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Scotland are in Group A <\/a>alongside hosts Germany<\/a>, Hungary<\/a> and Switzerland<\/a>. The Scots will kick off the tournament against the hosts on June 14 and, given their recent performances under Steve Clarke, will have every right to go into the match with realistic hopes of causing an upset against an opponent who are carrying a weight of expectation. Germany will be favourites against Scotland, and are a talented side, but they are in a period of transition and will have added pressure as tournament hosts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scotland have been extremely well organised under Clarke, and acquitted themselves superbly in a tough qualifying group, qualifying ahead of Norway, Georgia and Cyprus, behind Spain. As well as the hosts, seasoned international opposition in Hungary and Switzerland mean it will be a tough task to qualify from Group A. However, the Scots deservedly beat Spain in their qualifying campaign and are capable of causing any team problems. Midfielders John McGinn and Scott McTomminay are quality players, however, the great strength of Clarke\u2019s side is the fact that they are greater than the sum of their parts. A reality check possibly game in the return match against the Spanish in qualifying where they lost 2-0 and a 3-1 home defeat to England, which shows that they still have some way to go. How Scotland qualified for the Euros<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Scotland qualified for Euro 2024 in second place, behind Spain, in qualifying Group A with a record of five wins, two draws and only one defeat, to the Spanish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scotland Euro 2024 Squad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A key to Scotland’s success has been the team ethic. Clarke usually employs a very solid 3-4-2-1 system. LIverpool’s Andy Robertson is a key man at left wing back, while McTomminay’s allround play and goals from midfield have been a key feature. Aston Villa midfielder McGinn has been used both as a midfielder and as a wide forward has also been important to the Scots. Angus Gunn is likely to be first choice in goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A number of players, including McTomminay, McGinn, Robertson, Keiran Tierney and Billy Gilmour were part of the squad in Euro 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McTomminay is a versatile midfielder, at home as a holding player or in a more attacking role. He has chipped in with a number of important goals. McGinn’s passing, strength, goal threat and ability from setpieces have been vital. Robertson is an imprtant player in attack and defence on the left. Lyndon Dykes is a strong physical presence upfront<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing, Scotland are 80\/1 outsiders to win the tournament with bet365, I feel that the bookies have got things right. Scotland are a good solid team, cpable of upsetting the best, however, recent performances against England and Spain have shown that there is a way to go before they can consistently match the best sides in Europe.
