Held for the first time in 1927, it is now one of the three tournaments (together with the UK Championship and the invitational Masters) that make up snooker\u2019s Triple Crown Series. The current world champion is the Belgian Luca Brecel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"world-snooker-championship-2024\">World Snooker Championship 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The World Championship takes place from Saturday, 20 April 2024 until Monday, 6 May 2024 at the Crucible in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current length format of matches per round is as follows. The first round is played over best of 19 frames, played over two sessions. It would take O\u2019Sullivan, 48, to eight titles, which would be a record for the modern era (from 1969). O\u2019Sullivan has already secured the two other major titles this season,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/betting.com\/gb\/news\/another-uk-title-for-osullivan-what-are-the-odds-on-him-landing-the-world-championship\">the UK Championships<\/a>&nbsp;and the Masters. The \u201cRocket\u201d is currently 3\/1 with BetUK to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 48 years old he is showing little sign of slowing down and, if anything, appears to be playing better than ever. Such is his longevity he is both the youngest and oldest champion in a number of tournaments. He is the oldest winner of all three triple crown evenand is the oldest and youngest winner of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/betting.com\/gb\/masters-snooker\">Masters<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/betting.com\/gb\/snooker-uk-championship\">UK Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O\u2019Sullivan appears to be being more selective with the tournaments he plays in, ensuring that he is in top condition for the ones which matter to him. And so far this season, that policy appears to be paying dividends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, O\u2019Sullivan went out in the quarter finals to eventual champion Luca Brecel. Brecel is 18\/1 to retain his title. At the 2022 World Championship, \u201cThe Rocket\u201d made his 30th Crucible appearance, equalling Steve Davis\u2019s record. He defeated Judd Trump 18\u201313 in the final to win his seventh world title, equalling Stephen Hendry for the most world titles in the modern era. At 46 years and 148 days, he became the oldest world champion in snooker history, surpassing Ray Reardon, who was 45 years and 203 days when he won his last title in 1978. &nbsp;O\u2019Sullivan also surpassed Hendry\u2019s record of 70 Crucible wins, setting a new record of 74.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Judd Trump, world champion in 2019 won the Masters last season and will be looking to add another world title in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Third favourite Mark Selby, the 2021 world champion could be in the mix.
