Netherlands v Argentina Betting Tips & Predictions

Brazil are 3/8 favourites to get the better of Croatia inside 90 minutes in their World Cup quarter-final tie on Friday.

Argentina were under pressure after losing to Saudi Arabia, but Lionel Scaloni has guided his team to three consecutive wins.

Lionel Messi’s World Cup dream remains alive, though they face by far their greatest challenge when they take on the Netherlands in the last eight.

Louis van Gaal’s team were clinical and solid against the USA, but their performances as a whole have not been exactly impressive.

These teams faced off at the 2006 and 2014 World Cups.

Both matches were goalless after 90 minutes, with Argentina winning the latter tie on penalties.

Winner: Argentina

23/20 (Boyle Sports)

Argentina have allowed the fewest expected goals at this World Cup.

Their attack is not the most aesthetically pleasing at times, but they have Messi and enough talent around him to score goals.

In all four matches, the Netherlands’ underlying statistics have been concerning.

Van Gaal’s side were well-organised against the USA, but it wasn’t a performance to inspire confidence ahead of a matchup against one of the tournament favourites.

Anytime Goalscorer: Julian Alvarez

14/5 (Unibet)

Brought into the XI to replace Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez has scored in both of his starts in Qatar.

The Manchester City striker has netted in his last four starts for Argentina, in fact, and has taken eight shots in four World Cup appearances.

The Netherlands have conceded the most shots per match of any of the remaining teams.

Alvarez has a great record in front of goal for City, and can build on an already impressive World Cup campaign here.

Total Shots: Lionel Messi Over 3.5

8/11 (Bet365)

Facing a Dutch defence which leaks shots, this over is great value. Messi has taken 13 shots over his last two matches and 21 overall.

Only his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe averages more shot attempts in the tournament.
