England v Senegal Betting Tips & Predictions

England claimed seven points and kept two clean sheets to top Group B, and they are now 4/7 favourites over AFCON winners Senegal in their World Cup last-16 clash on Sunday.

For all the criticism of the performance against the USA, England have a favourable draw in the round of 16 and enter the knockout rounds full of confidence.

Gareth Southgate is spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting an XI for this match after the demolition of Wales on Tuesday.

Despite losing Sadio Mane just days before the tournament, Senegal bounced back from defeat to the Netherlands to book their place in the last 16 with wins over Ecuador and Qatar.

Win To Nil: England

6/5 (BetVictor)

England allowed a grand total of 0.9 expected goals across the draw with the USA and win over Wales.

After the eight-goal thriller with Iran, where Southgate was clearly not impressed with the defence, England were very solid defensively, with Harry Maguire again finding his best form for the Three Lions.

Senegal scored five times in Group A on 3.8 expected goals, but these are the matches where they miss Mane the most.

England won to nil four times at the Euros last summer, and should add to that tally on Sunday night.

Anytime Goalscorer: Marcus Rashford

12/5 (Bet365)

Marcus Rashford has surely done enough to earn a start on Sunday after his brace against Wales.

Back to his best for Manchester United, Rashford’s brand of direct dribbling and rapid off-ball movement is an ideal complement to Harry Kane in England’s front three.

Now with six goals in nine appearances for club and country, Rashford can take advantage of a Senegal defence which has just one clean sheet in eight matches.

Total Goals: Under 2.5

16/25 (Unibet)

England had 66.3 per cent possession through the group stages and allowed just 8.3 shots per match.

Of their eight knockout matches at the last two major tournaments, seven have had under 2.5 goals after 90 minutes, and five had two or fewer after 120 minutes.

The Three Lions will control possession, which will limit Senegal’s goalscoring opportunities. Look for an England clean sheet and a low-scoring win in 90 minutes.
