Italy vs Spain Betting Tips & Predictions

Spain managed to advance from their quarter-final against Switzerland with the smallest of margins after 1-1 at full time. Jordi Alba might have given La Roja a dream start by taking the lead in the 8th minute, but the Swiss came back with an equalizer through Xherdan Shaqiri in the 68th. No more goals scored and a penalty shootout had to separate the two teams. As Switzerland only managed to score once in four tries, Spain went on to secure their semi-final ticket. A hard fought win, but also a deserved one all things considered.

The upcoming opponent, Italy, didn’t need extra time or penalties to put Belgium aside, but it was no easy battle either. Italy took the lead after half an hour of play when Nicola Barrella utilized an error caused by the Belgian defence, and Lorenzo Insigne extended the lead about 15 minutes later with a magnificent bender from outside the box. With a 2-0 lead it was hard to see how Manicini’s excellent squad would even be challenged, but a questioned penalty for Belgium just at the end of the first half would become a crucial factor to bring excitement to the match. Romelu Lukaku scored his fourth goal in EURO 2020 to give the Belgians hope, but no more goals would fall in the second half and Gli Azzurri could celebrate their top four achievement - make no mistake though, Italy wants the gold and nothing else will suffice.

Betting Tip: Italy to advance for odds 1.75+

Spain did not impress against a heroic Swiss in their quarter-final, and needing 120 minutes + penalties is certainly not a sign of strength. Over the five matches both teams have played, Italy have impressed miles more than their upcoming opponent. Another factor speaking for Italy is the depth of their squad, which we classify as much stronger than Spain’s. As such our betting tip falls on Italy to make it through to the EURO final. Italy vs Spain EURO 2020/2021 Game Analysis, Odds and Betting Predictions

Despite a rather mediocre EURO 2020, Spain and Luis Enrique find themselves in a semi-final. In the group stage the team ended in a surprising second place, trailing Sweden after two draws and one win. After that the Spaniards struggled through with a 5-3 win against Croatia after extra time, and previously penalties were needed for survival. After their opening goal most fans and experts probably expected Spain to pull through easily, but yet again a lead was dropped, and small margins still were enough.

The fact that Spain is in the semi-finals is not a big surprise by any means, but the team has by most been rated as outsiders. England, France and Belgium to name a few have been clearly ranked higher than Spain consistently. With the start of two draws the criticism was raining over head coach Luis Enrique, but after recent successes opinions are changing. This, even if the performances themselves clearly have not been spectacular by any means.

If we compare Spain’s and Italy’s way to this semi-final, then Italy has been through a much easier journey. In the groups Manicini’s men obliterated their opponents, but they did meet some struggles against Austria in the round of 16. Still their performances trump those of Spain by a big margin.

Italy - Overview & Facts

Italy is one of the most impressive teams so far in EURO 2020. Gli Azzurri started off strong and they kept three straight clean sheets in the group stage. It was a great sign of strength and their odds as winners of the tournament has been on the decline steadily. The team is currently on a 32 matches long win-streak, and the question is if they can make it 33 and 34 as well?

Italy to win Euro 2020

The Italian fans are still hungry, and a semi-final run won’t be enough to please them. Even more so considering how well the team has played until now. A major reason for the success, especially as of late, is the goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. If he continues at current form it’s highly likely that he will be selected as the best keeper at EURO 2020. The performance from Donnarumma against Belgium was absolute world class, and he saved Italy several times when dangerous situations arose. Can he deliver another spotless performance against Spain? We believe so.

Italy at EURO 2020:

  • Belgium - Italy 1-2
  • Italy - Austria 2-1 (ET)
  • Italy - Wales 1-0
  • Italy - Switzerland 3-0
  • Turkey - Italy 0-3

Italy has met bigger resistance in the knockout phase than in the groups, where Mancini could even rest some of his key players. Against Belgium and Austria the matches have been close, but both times the Italians have won by simply being the better team, no doubt. Now we will see Insigne, Chiellini, Immobile and all the other Italian stars try to pull through in two more matches to win the second European title in the nation's history. The only gold was conquered as a host in 1968, and since then they have lost two finals: EURO 2000 and 2012.

Expected Starting 11:

Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Emerson; Barella, Jorginho, Verratti; Chiesa, Immobile, Insigne

Spain - Overview & Facts

The Spanish head coach, Luis Enrique, has kept his ideas and strategies intact despite heavy criticism being aimed towards him at the start of the tournament. Now the team somehow is among the four last in the tournament - interesting how fast things can change. As they are now just two matches away from claiming their fourth EURO title in history, the goal is just that and nothing else. Spain will never be a nation happy with less than gold, just like their upcoming opponents.

Spain to win Euro 2020

The Spanish performances in EURO 2020 have not been very impressive at all, but it still has to be seen as a strength that they have come this far despite that. Could Spain finally find their highest gear and surprise the hopeful Italians? While it shouldn’t be impossible, it also seems rather far-fetched at this point.

Spain at EURO 2020:

  • Switzerland - Spain 2-4 (after penalties)
  • Croatia - Spain 3-5 (ET)
  • Slovakia - Spain 0-5
  • Spain - Poland 1-1
  • Spain - Sweden 0-0

After two very weak performances against Sweden and Poland, the Spanish team finally let loose the offense against Slovakia in their 5-0 win. Actually the biggest win for Spain in EURO history. While Spain has scored 12 goals in the tournament, making them number one in that regard, we choose to think that’s not worthy information for what’s to come. Scoring 5 against Slovakia doesn’t have to tell the whole story, and well, neither does the five against Croatia to be honest. There should be close to zero chance that this Spanish team can replicate anything close to that against an Italian wall.

Expected Starting 11:

Simon; Azpilicueta, Eric Garcia, Laporte, Alba; Koke, Busquets, Pedri; Olmo, Morata, Torres

Italy vs Spain Head - to - Head Analysis

If we look back in the history books, then we can conclude that Spain has a slight edge over Italy. In 33 matches, the first being played in 1924, Spain has mustered 12 wins compared to 9 for Italy, and 12 draws. A good indicator how close these two nations have been throughout history. Since 2008 it’s a different story though, as Spain has a 5-2 lead. Then again, the Italian team that’s on the pitch for this semi-finals can not be compared to the ones a decade ago, and neither can Spain.
