When two sides in such a poor vein of form play each other it is pretty hard to see which way this one will turn out but it would not be a shock to anyone if this one also had no winner. With that in mind, backing the game to end in a draw at odds of 3.88 is good value for your buck.
A swift return to B for Gli Azzuri
Empoli are a club that punch above their weight almost every season. Icons like Francesco Tavano, however, are a thing of the past and the team have not been good enough this campaign to prevent Aurelio Andreazolli’s side slipping into the relegation places.
The Tuscans do not have the budget to go out and make big signings like a few of their relegation rivals and this will ultimately cost them their Serie A place.
The problem for Empoli is similar to many clubs of their size in that any time they get a player who looks like they will break out and become a star; they are force to sell them. It is how they survive and their youth production is considered to be excellent.
The other issue for Empoli is that often the players that they develop are already owned or at least co-owned by another, bigger, club so they don’t always get the value that they would like when they do sell.
If Empoli somehow stay up this season, and it is looking very unlikely, then the campaign will have to go down as a massive success.
Viola can’t buy a win
Fiorentina are a very good side on their day. They have some exciting young talents and plenty of energy but for whatever reason, they have not been able to get the victory some of their recent performances have deserved.
This poor run led to the resignation of popular manager Stefano Pioli who appeared at one stage to be leading an exciting young team towards European football.
His replacement is no stranger to the difficult aspects of the job. Vincenzo Montella’s return will hopefully help the Viola turn a corner and get back on the winning track but a draw and a defeat in his opening two matches mean Fiorentina have not won in Serie A for nine games, drawing five in that time.
Empoli are not much better winning just two of their last 10 games and only three of the last 19.
For Empoli the hope lies in Francesco Caputo who is the club’s leading scorer with 12 goals while he has also created more chances that any other player in the team with 35.
For Fiorentina there can only be one player to take the crown of most creative and that is Federico Chiesa. The winger has created 41 chances this season for the club, at least 14 more than any other team mate.
