Betting tip
With so much riding on this game for the Rossoneri and fresh from the win over Bologna, backing AC Milan to win at odds of 7/5 is the only way you should be betting on this one!
Is it time for a change in Milan?
When Gennaro Gattuso took charge of Milan there was a sense that he was the right man at the right time yet many pundits and commentators were unconvinced that he held the solution long-term.
Those people now appear to have been correct with the former heavy weights having to rely on others dropping points if they are to finish in the top four this season.
The 2-1 against Bologna stopped the run of three games without a win which saw defeats to both Lazio and Torino. The defeat to I’Granata was particularly poor and left Gattuso fuming at his players for their ‘embarrassing’ performance levels.
Fiorentina is a must win game for the Rossoneri and with Frosinone and SPAL left to play, you can see them picking up maximum points. Unfortunately, they are no longer in the driving seat and will have to hope that one of Atalanta, Inter or Roma drop points as well as keeping the in-form Torino at bay.
Considering the players available Gattuso is under some pressure to get results and it would not come as a surprise to see him leave his post over the summer.
Viola can’t buy a win
Fiorentina’s season has fallen into a disjointed, disappointing jaunt into mid-table with the Viola unable to buy a win in recent weeks. In fact, Fiorentina have not won a game since mid-February leading to the resignation of popular manager Stefano Pioli.
Vincenzo Montella has returned to the Artemio Franchi dugout but with the club now on a run of 11 games without a win, most fans will be happy to see the back of a turgid campaign.
Fiorentina have drawn a league-high 16 games this season and have lacked the players to kill off games or take advantage when on top. The main problem has been the over reliance on star man Frederico Chiesa. He is truly at the heart of everything good the team does and if he plays poorly or is marked out of the game, it leaves the team with very little chance of winning.
Chiesa is the target of several clubs this summer and he could well leave but Montella will be hoping any transfer fee can be reinvested into building a squad more capable of a European challenge.
The numbers
Milan know that this game is very important to their outside hopes of a top four finish while Fiorentina will just be hoping they can restore a bit of pride before the end of the campaign.
To highlight how important Chiesa is to the Viola you only need to look at the numbers. He has created the most chances (45), had the most shots on target (41), completed the most successful dribbles (114) and is also joint top scorer with seven goals.
Milan know that if they can contain the Italian international then they will be able to assert themselves on the game.
