Dreamhack Open Fall 2020 Preview with Betting Predictions and Tips

Last updated: 13 Oct 13:43

Dreamhack Open Fall 2020 is one of the most packed events of this year from the European region and it also comes with great betting opportunities. Seems like October is quickly working it’s way towards being the best month of the entire year. We have the best 16 teams competing for a prize pool of 115 000USD. Besides the cash, teams will also score RMR (Regional Major Ranking) points, which are crucial as those points determine whether you are going to be invited to the next major or not.

We do not know when the Rio Major is going to happen, as it was scheduled for November but it has been cancelled again. Due to that it’s quite crucial that especially the teams with lower points perform well in this event. As the stakes inside the server are getting higher and the pressure grows, punters need to be on point too. Dreamhack Open Fall provides great betting opportunities, so we’ll start the preparations now to ensure that we are up-to-date with all things necessary.

Betting on Dreamhack Open Fall 2020

The past couple of years for CS:GO have been very straightforward in many ways. Big teams win big tournaments and we’ve had a structure in the pro scene that was stable. The online era (2020+pandemic) has changed that completely which also means that betting has been harder as the results have not been following any “usual” patterns. Essentially, if you have been on point with a guessing game you have been able to make a lot of bank as most tournaments are won by different teams and there haven’t really been proper continuity.

Heroic is a great example of this. They are #1 (HLTV) ranked team in the world and what have they achieved in tier 1 events? They won ESL One Cologne EU Online and placed 3rd in EPL Season 12. Then you go into IEM New York with teams that you should win against every day if you are to be considered as the top team in the world, but you can’t even get out of groups, but lose your opening series and then the elimination game. -23 round difference, 0-2 and gg ty nore. Heroic has overachieved and thanks to online cs, they are ranked #1 in the world, when in reality they probably should be out of top10 at the moment.

With that being said, being able to bet properly on esports and cs:go now especially means that you need to disregard the world rankings completely. Focus solely on the last 3 months of performance, with the most recent results being the most important. The upside with the world rankings is that quite a few operators seem to value them with their odds, hence betting on underdogs is even more valuable now. Before you place any bets, make sure that you have the best odds available - you can do that with our odds comparison tool for example. Now, let’s start diving deeper into the betting predictions and get ready for when the action begins on Thursday!

Betting Predictions for Dreamhack Open Fall 2020

For whatever reason it seems that betting operators are yet to reveal the outright odds for Dreamhack Open Fall 2020, but we are not going to let that trouble us. Favorites are still going to be favorites and the same goes for challengers and dark horses. We are not going to let the lack of some odds stop us from preparing for the tournament, so it’s time to start looking at the best options and who to follow over the first games to get our foot between the door in the early stage.

Group A Predictions

Betting on Group A of Dreamhack Open Fall 2020 will be very hard, as the teams are closer to each other than in any other group in terms of their current form. Vitality is the favorite, but then the other three teams are very close.

Favorite

Vitality - it feels odd to type Vitality as a favorite despite the team being #1 in RMR points and they are #5 in HLTV rankings, as their performance has not really been what it’s supposed to be, but that’s online CS ABC right there for you. Dreamhack Open Fall 2020 will be the last opportunity for ZywOo to perform like a god to have a chance to beat s1mple in the annual best player of the year -award. Now I don’t think that ZywOo himself really cares about that nor is it something that he will even think, but we do, cause everyone knows the kid wants to be the best version of himself. If ZywOo is wearing his carry cape, Vitality can win against anyone, and it’s not so healthy to rely on one player to handle it all, but it is what it is. Vitality usually performs well in groups, so betting on them to win series vs teams such as mousesports, Fnatic and OG makes sense.

Challengers

OG - Despite losing the IEM NY EU final 0-3 to FaZe, OG has been performing pretty well lately. Their run in EPL was a disappointment, but it seems that they’ve been able to come back from it to challenge everyone. This group is definitely the toughest in the tournament, and it’ll require top notch performance from OG to clinch a playoff spot. As they are a bit of an on/off team, 2-0 and 0-2 results can be expected which means that the U 2.5 maps in BO3 series are good lines to look at when OG is playing.

Fnatic - They win, they lose, they win, they lose. They mix their roster, they get back together, and then they win and then they lose the day after. Inconsistency has been Fnatics poison for a while already, but still their roster has the potential to win over the favorites everyday. Their opening series vs OG will be eye opening, if they are on form betting on them to win BO3 series can be beneficial.

Mousesports - A lot of people forget mousesports quite often, including us. Being the “last team in the group” can be distracting, especially when mousesports is probably better than Fnatic at the moment, and if they are feeling it, they are above OG too. But are they in form and will they be able to get a spot in the upper bracket? That’s something we would want to know, and all we can do is sit back and wait to see how things play out.

Betting tips for Group A:

  • Vitality to win the group with odds of 2.40 and up
  • Over 2.5 maps when mousesports are playing

Group B Predictions

Half Danish, 25% French and then we have the Endpoint (pun intended). There’s only one king in this group, and their stars seem to align once again. Astralis will ram through groups, while the others are going to fight for their lives to secure a spot in the upper bracket. One could say that the battle is between Heroic and G2, but there’s a factor that might change the game.

Favorite

To the stars with Astralis. The Danish powerhouse is showing signs of returning to their previous form and Xyp9x & Gla1ve are back. Writing those two names makes my spine itch in a good way, as it’s great from a fan perspective to see those two superstars back in the lineup after they went on a break due to symptoms of burnout. You can be sure that they returned with a fresh mind and Astralis winning EPL S12 is proof of that. The boys are back and there’s only one thing they care about, which is winning. With online CS mixing the pallet up properly and results being all over the place it’s quite easy to trust Astralis. We expect that Astralis will go and win the entire thing. As the outright odds are not available at the time of writing it’s hard to provide tip for that, but once they appear if you can get 3.5+ odds for Astralis’s win, take it.

Challengers

Heroic - “The other Danish team”. Heroic is still #1 ranked team in the world, at least in the HLTV rankings. Don’t let that fool you, Heroic is not even a top5 team, top10 maybe. Trusting them to make it into the upper bracket is very iffy.

G2 - Another team that has benefited from the online era that we are living in now. 0-4 in IEM NY, lost 5 out of their 7 series in EPL. It has been quite a dire run lately for the EU squad and it’s not like the sky would be clear for them now. Astralis will be too much for them to chew and Heroic will at least match their power. With that being said, G2 will have a hard time in this event.

Underdog

Endpoint - Endpoint is definitely an x-factor of the group, and maybe in the tournament in general too. They are a team that have absolutely nothing to lose and even though the opponents haven’t been on the same level as they are in DH Open, they’ve won all 7 of their last games with pretty solid numbers. With Heroic and G2 being a bit lost, Endpoint might surprise them. They are a massive underdog, so betting on them with small stakes and high odds is definitely worth testing vs the challengers of the group.

Betting Tips for Group B:

  • Astralis to win Group A with odds of 1.65 and up.

Group C Predictions

When it comes to Group C we can pretty much state this fact already: sAw is going out with 0-3 result. It’s expected that FaZe wins the group and then BIG and Godsent will decide who goes to the upper and who to the lower bracket. But as we all have seen quite a few times before, anything can happen (between the three top teams in this group, sAw is seriously out).

Favorite

FaZe Clan - We previewed IEM New York EU before the event, in which we raised FaZe as one of the challenger teams to win with odds of 13. The Eagle landed quite beautifully and if you were able to cash that then congratulations, it’s a big W. With that being said the tournament win will of course raise the expectations for FaZe coming into this one. The Reasoning doesn’t really change as the performance of Niko, rain and Coldzera will pretty much determine if the team will do well or not. They were dominant in the IEM NY playoffs, as they won all 5 maps they played (2-0 win over Fnatic in semifinals & 3-0 vs OG in finals). Can FaZe keep up their form is a question we ask, and the answer will be seen after their 1st couple of games in DH Open. But again, because bookies seem to value HLTV rankings quite highly, you can find great odds for FaZe to win games vs teams ranked above them. They share their group with Godsent, BIG and sAw, which should mean it’s a free ticket to playoffs for them.

Challengers

BIG - The German squad has been performing on a level that they should. They aren’t the best team in the world, but still a pretty solid tier 1 group who has the ability to go far in tournaments. They aren’t a team that’ll win something like DH Open Fall, but something like Upper bracket semi finals are a possibility if they are feeling it.

Godsent - Godsent is another interesting team who were bouncing between tier 1 and 2 for quite some time. Their results in EPL were obviously a disappointment and Godsent is definitely looking to bounce back from that in DH Open Fall. Initially the battle for the second upper bracket spot will be between Godsent and BIG, so that’s the group stage series which will determine the future in the tournament between these two.

Betting tips for Group C:

  • Godsent & BIG Over 2.5 maps are good bets as both of the teams tend to play all maps in bo3 series often.
  • FaZe Clan to win Group C with odds of 1.9 and up

Group D Predictions

Group D is definitely the hardest one to judge beforehand as all the teams are more or less mid tier. Ence is the RMR points leader, but they are playing with xseven who was sold to HAVU a few months ago, but Ence would’ve lost a % of their points if they played with someone else, so xseveN joins the team on “loan” basis for this event. This means that Ence is playing with a stand-in, which definitely shakes the package. NiP lost 6 of their 7 series in ESL Pro League with all their last three series ending 0-2, but they played with Threat instead of Nawwk. On the other hand you have North and Sprout, who aren’t really great either. So previewing this group is a bit of a shot in the dark, but we’ll do our best.

Favorite

Ninjas in Pyjamas - Nawwk is back, which means that Threat is back to coaching. For the Ninjas in their Pyjamas this means happy days! If you look at NiP’s previous results they don’t look too good, but that’s because they had to play with Threat while Nawwk was on a break. But before the break NiP was playing really well and Nawwk was their best performing player. You can expect them to get back in form which will definitely make them the team to beat in this group.

Challengers

Ence - As said above, Ence is playing with xseveN again due to the way RMR point system works. Unfortunately it’s not an edge for them, more like a challenge that might not be that easy to solve. They are now used to playing with Jamppi and they play different type of CS than what they played with xseveN. So, the question is can Ence overcome the struggle of a (temporary) roster change and perform well in a big event such as this? It’s going to be interesting to see, but it ain’t going to be easy.

Sprout - Sprout has been absolutely smashing lately. They have won 14 out of their last 16 series. But the games have mainly been against tier 2 teams. DH Open Fall will be a very good chance for them to climb up the ladder and get some wins against bigger dogs under their belt, but it ain’t going to be easy. They should lose to NiP, but winning over North and Ence seems very possible, if not likely even.

North - At the moment it’s hard to evaluate North properly, as they haven’t really been playing too many official games lately, and the ones they did are tier 2 events and qualifiers for Dreamhack Open Fall. They are definitely the biggest underdog and we think their best chance to win is over Ence, if Ence is not even close to their “real” form.

Betting tips for Group D:

  • Ence to win the group with odds of 5.0 and up (the odds are way too high, even with xseveN Ence should sit between 3 to 3.5)
Dreamhack Open Fall 2020 Teams
