Wolves vs Aston Villa in the Premier League on Apr 2. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Wolves vs Aston Villa in the Premier League on Apr 2. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Although Wolves are not out of the race for a European place, they have certainly lost ground before the international break and after being masters of their own downfall against Leeds, one wonders just how costly that 3-2 defeat will be.

This weekend they will look to return to winning ways, as they play host to Aston Villa and with Steven Gerrard’s men aiming to secure a top-ten finish, they will look for more than local bragging rights from this West Midlands derby.

With a West Midlands derby on the horizon this Saturday, the formbook may have to go out of the window and when local pride is at stake, it is always a little more difficult to understand the lie of the land.

However, this does not mean that it is impossible either and with both teams avoiding a draw in any of their last six respective Premier League outings, there is a feeling that they are perhaps due one soon.

Which means after looking across all the biggest online betting sites, a draw at Molineux is exactly what I have plumped for and with odds of 9/4 (bet365) on offer, I suggest you join me in backing this outcome.

Wolves Form, squad news, opinion

After going 2-0 up against Leeds, it looked as if Wolves were going to ease their way to a rather comfortable home win at Molineux and even after forward Raul Jimenez was sent off for a second bookable offence.

However, the passages of play that followed Jimenez’s departure, were very unlike Wolves and with them conceding three incredibly sloppy goals, they also handed Leeds three massively important points.

Points that Wolves could have just as easily done with and with Bruno Lage’s men now two behind West Ham in 8th, the Molineux outfit find themselves with an uphill struggle regarding European qualification.

Especially as consistency has been lacking in recent times and from the last six Premier League matches that they have contested, they have only managed two wins while also suffering four defeats.

Which means Wolves’ season is in danger of slipping away at just the wrong time and if Bruno Lage cannot mastermind a win at the weekend, then their campaign may well come to a shuddering halt.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Aston Villa, manager Bruno Lage has a clean bill of health before the weekend’s Premier League action. However, he will need to keep an eye on Ruben Neves, as the midfielder is one caution away from serving a ban.

Aston Villa Form, squad news, opinion

Going into the final stretch of this Premier League season. Aston Villa currently find themselves lying 9th in the table and can be considered the best of the non-European invite chasing teams right now.

Then again, it is perhaps fair to say that Aston Villa would love to be back in European competition themselves and although such a reward will pass them by this season, progress is still on the agenda for manager Steven Gerrard.

Because if the Villa Park outfit can finish the season in the top-half of the table, then it will only serve as a launchpad for the following campaign and it will also make the club a more attractive proposition when it comes to potential new signings.

Signings that manager Gerrard will hope includes Philippe Coutinho on a permanent basis and with the Brazilian reminding everyone that he still has what it takes to play in the Premier League, a completion of his loan from Barcelona looks likely.

While Coutinho will be asked to do the business against Wolves at the weekend and if he does help Villa to victory, it will only be a further measure of the progress that is being made under their new management team.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Wolves, there are no injuries for manager Steven Gerrard to deal with and the Argentine pair of Emi Martinez and Emiliano Buendia will be an integral part of Villa’s plans to earn maximum points on Saturday.

With this being a West Midlands derby, there is plenty of room for rivalry and with Wolves coming out on top more often, they will look for more of the same this coming Saturday afternoon.

In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Wolves have won on 56 occasions, Aston Villa 42 and there have been 33 draws.

About the Venue

When it comes to the home of Wolves, their Molineux ground has recently undergone a period reconstruction and in doing so, it is certainly worthy of hosting a team in the Premier League.

With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in England, it means there is no longer the need to show a Vaccine Passport before attending the ground. Which means, match tickets are the only item that is required to be produced at the time of writing.

When looking at the Premier League top-six odds, Wolves’ have lengthened considerably after that dramatic 3-2 defeat to Leeds and if they lose to Aston Villa, then any bet in that market is better placed elsewhere.

While in terms of Aston Villa, the best route for making money between now and the end of the season, is the top-ten finish market and if they can pick up points at Molineux, that will look even more of a shrewd bet.
