Southampton vs Norwich in the Premier League on Feb 25. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Southampton vs Norwich in the Premier League on Feb 25. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

There is no doubt that Southampton are in something of a purple patch when it comes to form right now and after going unbeaten in their last four league outings, they will look to extend that run to five on Friday night.

While if they are to do that, then they will need to get the better of a struggling Norwich side and with results going against them at the weekend, they once again find themselves at the bottom of the table.

Southampton 2-1

After looking at all the best betting sites online, I’ve noticed some good prices when backing Southampton to win by a particular score and with their good form being combined with Norwich’s slump as of late, all signs point to a home win for the Saints on Friday.

However, it is not simply a case of backing them to win over Norwich, it is the final score where our money will be made and although the Canaries have conceded seven in the past fortnight, the opposition has been much tougher than that of the Saints.

Which means a 2-1 home win for Southampton at odds of 8/1 with LeoVegas is what appeals to me most and if it appeals to you just as much, then I would consider putting this on your Friday night betting slip.

Southampton Form, squad news, opinion

With eight points earned from the last 12 on offer, Southampton are currently flying high and although European football will likely be out of reach for them, a ninth-place finish in the Premier League is not an unreasonable target.

That’s because they find themselves just one point behind Brighton at the start of this weekend and if they can get the better of Norwich on Friday, they will leapfrog their South Coast rivals.

Which would be testament to the work that Southampton have put in as of late and after an excellent week which saw them get the better of Tottenham and also hold Manchester United, they then made rather light work of Everton last Saturday.

Which means the Saints now have the luxury of being a genuine mid-table team this season and now the challenge for Southampton, is one that asks just how far they can finish up the Premier League table.

Because with prize money being based on positional success, the more money the Saints can get in their back pocket, they can then hope to strengthen their squad even further in the summer. Something that will only further their progress under new owners.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Norwich, it is a trio of absentees that manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will have to deal with, and this once again means that Alex McCarthy, Nyanco and Nathan Tella are out injured.

Norwich Form, squad news, opinion

With back-to-back defeats being dealt to Norwich over the past two weekends, the Canaries are back to where they started, and this means that Dean Smith must lift his players off the bottom of the table once again.

Admittedly the fixture computer was incredibly harsh to Norwich over the past two weekends, as they have had to deal with a double onslaught of Manchester City and Liverpool and therefore unsurprisingly have picked up no points for their troubles.

Although they may have at least felt that a surprise was on at Anfield last Saturday, as they took a second-half lead against Liverpool. Unfortunately for them though, they only seemed to rev up the red machine instead.

Of course, those two fixtures were never really going to define Norwich’s season and, in all honesty, the remit from the manager is rather simple. Do not concede too many goals against the big two.

Unfortunately, they ended up conceding seven across the past two weekends and one wonders just how important goal difference and a negative one at that, will end up being at the end of the season.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Southampton, Norwich manager Dean Smith has a clean bill of health for the trip to St Mary’s and this will be something of a boost to the former Aston Villa boss.

When it comes to history between these two outfits, Southampton have been the largely dominant force. However, there is no doubt that Norwich are also capable of earning a win when it matters.

In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Southampton have won on 51 occasions, Norwich 41 and there have been 38 draws

About the Venue

With Southampton leaving their legendary Dell ground behind, they have now called St Mary’s home for more than 20 years and although it has been overshadowed by some contemporaries, it is still one of the more impressive grounds in the Premier League.

With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in England, it means there is no longer the need to show a Vaccine Passport before attending the ground. Which means, match tickets are the only item that is required to be produced at the time of writing.

As far as the Premier League relegation odds are concerned, Norwich are now overwhelming candidates to suffer the drop and one wonders if they can do anything to help their plight at the weekend.

Especially as Southampton are in such good form as of late and you get the feeling that things are beginning to click for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. Could he become a contender for the Manchester United job if this continues?
