Southampton vs Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Apr 30. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Southampton vs Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Apr 30. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

With both Southampton and Crystal Palace managing draws in their previous respective league outings, they will each be looking to return to winning ways and with a top-ten finish also in touching distance, neither will want to cede further ground in this race.

For the Saints, they will feel boosted by the fact that they came back from 2-0 down against Brighton, while for the Eagles it is a case of trying to rid themselves of a Wembley hangover that is rather persistent.

Southampton And Under 2.5

With the end of the season just around the corner, both teams need to avoid dead rubber territory and the only way to do that, is by winning the Premier League fixture that awaits them this weekend.

Which is something that I have considered when looking at the biggest and best betting websites and with Crystal Palace hitting a considerable rut in recent weeks, I think Southampton will take full advantage.

However, it must also be noted that Southampton are not necessarily known for scoring goals with much regularity and although I think they will come out on top, I think it will be under 2.5 goals in total.

Southampton Form, squad news, opinion

When you look at the teams that are currently found within the middle bracket of the Premier League table, Southampton are perhaps the perfect example of how a team can move up and down with such regularity.

Because with the Saints blowing hot and cold in equal measures this season, it means that they go into this weekend of league action lying 13th in the table and although that sounds like a bad standing to have, there is also cause for optimism at the same time.

Optimism that comes courtesy of being just two points behind Leicester in 10th and with the Foxes having more than one eye on European success at the end of the season, Ralph Hasenhuttl and his players will be looking to pounce.

With that being said, they also are eyeing up a 9th place finish as well and although Newcastle currently have that berth as their own, they also have tough fixtures to finish this season.

Therefore, Southampton’s Premier League season is far from over and this is the message that their manager will be drumming into the players before the visit of Crystal Palace this weekend

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Crystal Palace, there are only two issues for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to deal with and that is the continual absences of both Alex McCarthy and Nathan Tella.

Crystal Palace Form, squad news, opinion

After a bore draw at home to Leeds on Monday night, Crystal Palace have now failed to win any of their last three Premier League matches and although a top-ten finish is still a viable target, the Eagles now need to awaken from their slumber.

A slumber that has seemingly accelerated after their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea and with a second trip to Wembley now no longer on the agenda, there is a sense that perhaps Palace’s season has already ended.

Of course, the mere fact that they have stayed in the division is something to be celebrated and especially when many people considered the South Londoners as a possible contender for relegation.

However, there is also a sense that Palace do not simply want to make up the numbers in the Premier League and if they are to make continual progress as a club, then a top-ten finish needs to be delivered at the end of May.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Southampton, there are no new concerns for manager Patrick Vieria to deal with and this means that Crystal Palace will have a clean bill of health for the weekend.

However, star midfielder Conor Gallagher must be careful not to pick up another yellow card and if he does, he will subsequently serve a disciplinary suspension.

History

When it comes to the history of Southampton and Crystal Palace, it is the Saints who have come out on top more often than not and therefore, Saturday’s hosts will also be hoping that the weight of history supports them at the weekend.

pointer right
In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Southampton have won on 48 occasions, Crystal Palace 40 and there have been 25 draws.

About the Venue

St Mary’s Stadium opened in 2001 and holds up to 32,384 supporters

After leaving the historic home behind at the turn of the new millennium, The Dell is no longer the ground that plays host to Southampton and instead, it is St Mary’s Stadium that now welcomes the Saints.

Although the ground looked rather impressive at the time of construction, it has been overtaken by newer builds since and it is perhaps symptomatic of the identikit design of the early century.

Conclusion

When it comes to the Premier League outright odds for both teams, the most interesting market will be the top-ten finish and with each of them needing a win at the weekend, any loser will surely be consigned to the bottom half of the table.

quotes
With both Southampton and Crystal Palace finding themselves outside the top-ten before the weekend, either club will know that this is a must win and therefore, it may be a more entertaining clash than you first think.
