Under the UEFA Confederation, the Slovakia Fortuna Liga currently features 12 sides.
So far this season, title defenders Slovan Bratislava have started strongly and currently occupy the top position in the table. Spartak Trnava, however, are close behind and are making a real fight of it early on. With these two teams taking commanding leads at the top, things are compact in the middle of the table. MFK Ružomberok have been doing well as they currently sit in 3rd position, yet only 3 points separates them from AS Trenčín currently sitting in 6th.
MFK Tatran Liptovský Mikuláš managed to secure promotion from the second division II Liga to the Fortuna Liga for the 2021/22 season as they successfully took the championship. The newly promoted side have not been having the immediate impact they were hoping for as they are currently mixing with teams near the bottom of the table. Despite finishing last season in 8th position, FC Nitra suffered relegation during the play-offs and will be participating in the lower division unless they can secure promotion to the top flight once again.

Last season saw Slovan Bratislava take their third consecutive title after another very successful season for the side. The team managed to end the regular season with 17 wins, 3 draws, and only 2 losses with a +42 goal difference - 10 points clear of 2nd place FC DAC 1904. While Slovan Bratislava secured a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot, DAC Dunajská Streda, Spartak Trnava, and MŠK Žilina all also qualified for Europe.
Slovan Bratislava managed to conduct some good business during the most recent transfer window. The squad has been bolstered in predominantly the midfield positions with Jaromir Zmrhal and Uche Agbo each arriving. Slovan Bratislava have also made a couple of notable sales in the shape of young centre-forward David Strelec and goalkeeper Dominik Greif.
Elsewhere, MŠK Žilina has lost centre-back Jakub Kiwior as well as Polish centre-forward Dawid Kurminowski. Despite having a good income from the players they sold recently, MŠK Žilina has not really made any notable investments to their squad for the 2021/22 season.
DAC Dunajská Streda saw promising centre-forward Eric Ramírez leave the club whilst left winger Didier Lamkel Zé arrived from Royal Antwerp on loan. This could give the team further attacking options for the 2021/22 season.
Slovan Bratislava are one of the big favourites to win the Fortuna Liga once again this season in what would be their 4th consecutive title. They finished the 2020/21 regular season with a very commanding lead of 10 points over 2nd-placed DAC. So far during the 2021/22 campaign, Slovan Bratislava have been keeping up their good run of form and are currently top of the table with Spartak Trnava close behind them. With the recent signings coming into the squad, Slovan Bratislava are looking at another successful season ahead.
Spartak Trnava have got off to a very promising start to the 2021/22 campaign as they currently sit in 2nd position level on points with league leaders Slovan Bratislava with only the goal difference separating the two sides. Spartak Trnava could be a challenger for the title this season if their current run of form continues and if they can keep up with Slovan Bratislava. Last season saw Spartak Trnava secure a respectable 4th position in the table after the conclusion of the regular season, and only 2 points away from MŠK Žilina who held onto 2nd.
MŠK Žilina secured 3rd position in the table by the end of the regular 2020/21 season. With their success in securing a top spot in the table last season, as well as qualifying for the inaugural Europa Conference League this season, MŠK Žilina could be looking to do even better for 2021/22. MŠK Žilina’s lack of signings during the recent transfer window may hamper a challenge for top spot though. They have recent history but in the last few years they haven’t been the top side in Slovakia - a fact that’s unlikely to change this season.
DAC Dunajská Streda made a very good impact in the league during the 2020/21 season as they secured 2nd place with a gap of 7 points ahead of 3rd place MŠK Žilina. This success last season saw DAC qualify for the Europa Conference League. After coming in 2nd to Slovan Bratislava, DAC could be setting their sights on securing one of the top spots again this season and perhaps even make a bid for the very top.
Tatran Liptovský Mikuláš are new to the Fortuna Liga for the 2021/22 season as the team secured promotion after taking the II Liga title in the 2020/21 campaign. Being a newly promoted side in the top-flight of any league is going to be tough, and Tatran Liptovský Mikuláš could be looking at a possible relegation battle in their first season back as they are currently mixing with the lower-end teams in the table.
The no.9 forward joined Slovan Bratislava in 2020 and in 48 appearances for the club has bagged himself 15 goals. So far during the 2021/22 campaign, Henty scored a hat-trick against Zlaté Moravce in a 4-1 win at home. With this run of form, Henty could be looking to challenge for the top spots in the goalscorer’s table and possibly even take the overall top position.
Elvis Mashike Sukisa
The forward joined FK Senica in 2021 in preparation for the new season is already having a great impact for his team as he has scored 5 goals from 8 appearances. As it currently stands, Elvis Mashike Sukisa is in contention for the top spot in the goalscorer’s table and might be able to seize the top spot outright by the end of the season.
The attacking midfielder for MŠK Žilina is making his presence known this season as he challenges for an unlikely golden boot with 4 goals to his name already. Bichakhchyan ended the 2020/21 regular season with 9 goals and 5 assists. If Bichakhchyan continues his current run of form, he could be looking to make further advances in the top goalscorer’s table.
Since signing for DAC Dunajská Streda in 2018, Kalmár has accumulated an impressive 30 goals from 67 appearances. Last season, Kalmár secured 5th position in the top goalscorer’s table with 13 goals and also bagged himself 5 assists for good measure. Kalmár could be looking to replicate his successes of last season to help DAC compete for the top spots in the league table for the 2021/22 campaign.
