Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad in La Liga on Mar 5. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad in La Liga on Mar 5. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Real Madrid have further tightened their grip on top spot in La Liga and next up for them is the visit of Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Madrid moved six points clear after safely negotiating an often-tricky trip to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, while La Real returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Osasuna the following day.

But it’s been a season of two halves for the visitors and they now find themselves outside of the European spots despite a great start to the campaign taking them to within two points of top spot after the first dozen games.

And we think they’re likely to have a tough time of it in the Spanish capital this weekend, so let’s see how we can convert that expectation into value with our expert football betting tips.

Real Madrid Win to Nil

It’s just one defeat in 18 La Liga games for Real Madrid and it’s hard to see anything other than a regulation victory for them here.

Los Blancos have been defensively sound in recent weeks too, keeping four straight clean sheets domestically, while their visitors have scored just one goal in their last five away games – in a 1-1 draw at struggling Alaves.

And Real’s home record has been pretty impeccable over the course of the last 12 months. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have now gone an entire year since their last home defeat in the league, as well as winning nine of their 13 La Liga games in their backyard this campaign.

So, with Real Sociedad struggling for goals on the road and seemingly running out of gas after a fine start, we fancy the hosts to overrun them. So, our top tip is for a Real Madrid Win to Nil, which is available at 9/5 with bet 365 as well as with all the other major bookies.

Real Madrid Form, squad news, opinion

We’re expecting a comfortable win for Real here, but there is the potential distraction of a Champions League second leg against Paris St Germain.

But their form in games either side of Champions League games has generally been pretty good, especially at the back, with clean sheets in all three La Liga games they played before playing in the Champions League just days later.

That sounds like a pretty good omen to us, and they also have a good recent record against this weekend’s opponents, winning three and drawing two of their last five La Liga meetings, including a 2-0 win in San Sebastian in December.

Second-place Sevilla play Alaves the night before and are expected to pick up maximum points, so Real will be under pressure to reestablish their six-point cushion with a victory here.

Two key players will be suspended, though, with Casemiro and Ferland Mendy missing out, but David Alaba is expected to be fit after a slight muscular issue.

Real Sociedad Form, squad news, opinion

As we touched on at the top of the article, it’s been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde season for Real Sociedad.

They were sitting in third place after seven wins and just one defeat from their opening 12 games, but just four wins in the following 13 matches now has them in seventh place, despite three points last weekend.

Their away form has also deserted them. La Real kicked off the season with four wins and two draws from their opening seven matches on the road but are now winless on their travels since November and are looking rather blunt up top.

On the bright side, manager Imanol Alguacil has no fresh injury worries.

This will be the 56th meeting between these two and it will won’t come as too much of a surprise to discover that Real Madrid have the historical dominance of this fixture.

Madrid have 31 wins under the belt, while Real Sociedad and the draw are tied at 12 apiece.

About the Venue

The Bernabeu is the third-largest stadium in Europe and is right up there when it comes to iconic grounds on the continent.

Work will soon be completed to add an extra 4000 seats to the 81,000-capacity stadium, which opened back in 1947.

If this game was taking place four months ago, we probably would’ve had a tough time calling it, but with Real Madrid shifting through the gears during the winter months, we think they’ll have way too much here.

Los Txuri-Urdin certainly have threats in Alexander Isak and Mikel Oyarzabal, but with Madrid boasting a 13-month unbeaten run at the Bernabeu, we can’t see the away side causing too much of a fuss on Saturday night.
