Rangers vs Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Feb 24. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Rangers vs Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Feb 24. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Rangers caused huge shockwaves on the continent last week as they battered Borussia Dortmund 4-2 at Signal Iduna Park in the first leg of their Europa League tie last week.

Goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram had Gio van Bronckhorst’s side 3-0 up by the 50th minute, and although Jude Bellingham and Raphael Guerrero provided some form of consolation for the hosts, the Scots are very much in control of this one.

That said, Dortmund responded with a hammering of their own at the weekend as they put Monchengladbach to the sword with a 6-0 victory, and they will need to keep those shooting boots on for the trip to Ibrox.

The same can’t be said for Rangers after their 1-1 draw with Dundee United, so has momentum swung back to the Germans? Let’s take a look at the formbook in more detail as we look for some expert football betting tips.

Borussia Dortmund -1

Rangers certainly defied the odds to come away from Dortmund with a two-goal advantage, but even so, if you were offered the chance to back either side to win this one by two clear goals, you’d have to go with the visitors here.

Especially after they took Gladbach to the cleaners on Sunday, despite the absence of Erling Haaland. His deputy, Donyell Malen, found the net, while in-form Marcos Reus bagged a couple of his own.

And Rangers have been stuttering a little in the Scottish Premiership. They had the chance to close the gap on leaders Celtic to just one point but required a Joe Aribo goal late on to rescue a point at Tannadice against Dundee United.

So, there’s just a feeling that this run of games is starting to catch up with Rangers a little, and with Dortmund having no option but to attack, we think the price of 17/10 for the Germans in the -1 handicap market looks a great bet with Sportnation and also with some of the most popular sports betting sites.

Rangers Form, squad news, opinion

Rangers’ season was on the verge of collapsing after a 3-0 humbling at the hands of bitter Glasgow rivals Celtic at the start of February.

But they responded brilliantly with four straight wins and 14 goals to boot, with their four-goal rout in Dortmund the best performance of the lot.

However, the wind may well have been taken out of their sails somewhat after their draw at the weekend that keeps them three points behind Celtic in the title race.

But the Ibrox crowd have a huge part to play in this one, and with the Gers going into this one on a nine-game winning run on home soil, it won’t be an easy night for the visitors.

There are no new injury worries for van Bronckhorst, with a virtually full-strength squad at his disposal.

Borussia Dortmund Form, squad news, opinion

It was an off-colour performance from BVB last week, but we all know they have that kind of showing in their locker, and their win over the weekend shows they know how to recover from setbacks.

And it should also put doubters at ease over the lack of a Haaland-shaped presence up top. Their six-goal rout on Sunday means they’ve now scored 16 goals in their last five matches in all competitions.

But despite a clean sheet last time out, there are still concerns about this side as a defensive unit. February has not only seen them lose heavily to Rangers, but they also took a 5-2 thrashing from Bayer Leverkusen on home soil.

Their away games in the Bundesliga have seen plenty of goals too, with seven of their last eight outings seeing both teams score, while Dortmund themselves have scored at least three goals in each of their last three games on the road.

Haaland could make a return for this one, but the second leg is likely to be too soon for Thomas Meunier, who is still recovering from a slight knock.

Rangers continued their excellent record against Borussia Dortmund with that win last week and it’s now just one defeat in nine against the Germans.

Their first meeting in Glasgow took place more than half a century ago, with the Scots coming out on top 2-1 in 1966.

About the Venue

Ibrox is one of the most iconic stadiums in the British Isles and has created a wealth of memories for Rangers fans since opening in 1899.

The 50,000-seater is well known for its intimidating atmosphere on European nights, so the stage is set for a potential classic.

These two were never going to play out a tightly wound draw, but with Rangers springing a huge upset last week, the ball is back in the Dortmund court for this one.

The first goal here is crucial and if BVB can bag it then we’ve got a game on our hands. Marco Rose’s side can outscore the best of the best on their day, so if they’re on their A-game here, we fancy them to overturn the deficit and sneak through.
