After suffering an agonising defeat to Manchester United last Saturday, Norwich’s hopes of avoiding relegation at the end of the season have just become even slimmer and although they are not yet mathematically safe, it will be a case of when and not if they go down.
While for Newcastle, their survival has been all but assured in recent days and with a sense of relief overwhelming Tyneside, the Magpies can now begin to be a lot more relaxed in their footballing approach.

Norwich have improved but whether this improvement keeps their heads above water at the end of the season, is still to be discovered and this is something that I have considered when looking at all the leading betting sites.
Because with Norwich still mathematically in the Premier League for now, they will have to give it absolutely everything and with Newcastle not only safe, but also having shaky form on the road, this could play into the Canaries hands.

Seven points from safety before the midweek action and it is a tally that could be even more by the time we get to the weekend and although Norwich have offered some form of improvement in recent weeks, you get the feeling that it is too little and too late.
Because after getting the better of Burnley at Carrow Road, a flicker of light just stayed alive in terms of their survival bid. Fast forward six days and that same light has all but been extinguished.
Although there is no doubt that they gave Manchester United a huge scare last Saturday and arguably should have got at least a point for their efforts, it was defensive woe that was once again their undoing.
Something that has been the case all too often this season and when you couple this with a chronic lack of goals at the other end, it is no surprise that Norwich have struggled as much as they have.
Now though, all they can do is win as many football matches as possible and when you consider that they have won just five in the league this season, such a challenge may prove to be herculean in size.
After reaching 37 points last Sunday, Newcastle can start to breathe a lot easier and when you consider that the Magpies were bottom of the table in December, it has been nothing short of a remarkable turnaround.
One that has been overseen by manager Eddie Howe and with the former Bournemouth boss taking an extended hiatus from the game, it was St James’ Park which offered him a new home in the game.
A home that Eddie Howe has quickly made his own and with him being backed by the club’s raucous support, he and his player have repaid the faith that has been shown in this Newcastle side.
Faith that has arguably been louder in defeat and with the Newcastle fans never wavering during the dark times, they can now look to the future - one that seems incredibly exciting from next season and beyond.
Because this is when the project on Tyneside really gets underway and with phase one now complete, it will be interesting to see whether European football is awaiting just around the corner.
When it comes to the history of Norwich and Newcastle, it is the Magpies who have come out on top more often than not and if the Canaries are to stay up, they are going to have to build on their 17 previous wins against the Tyneside outfit.
Carrow Road opened in 1935 and holds up to 27,244 supporters.
With Carrow Road being in operation for nearly 80 years, it is one of the older grounds within the confines of the Premier League. Then again, with the way the Canaries are playing at present, it may soon be one of the older grounds in the EFL Championship.
Although Norwich’s home may give up plenty in terms of capacity, their supporters are just as passionate as anyone else’s and on their day, they have been known to help cheer their team to victory.
When it comes to the outright Premier League odds, Norwich are an absolute certainty to be relegated this season and even though they have impressed in the last couple of weeks, they are only delaying the inevitable.
