Napoli vs AC Milan in the Serie A on Mar 6. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Napoli vs AC Milan in the Serie A on Mar 6. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

We have ourselves a huge game in the Serie A title race as the top two lock horns at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday evening.

The pair are level on points, but Napoli currently occupy top spot due to their superior goal difference over AC Milan. Reigning champions Inter Milan are two points adrift in third - albeit with a game in hand - and the battle for the Scudetto is really hotting up.

Gli Azzurri snapped a four-game winless stretch in all competitions, beating Lazio at the weekend.

The visitors are unbeaten in their last five Serie A matches, but they’ve drawn three of them, and they’ve blown a bit hot and cold over the last few weeks.

Draw And Both Teams To Score

As you would expect with a game involving the top two (on the same points) at this stage of the season, it’s a pretty tough one to call.

Both sides getting involved on the goals front does look likely, though. Napoli have scored at least once in each of their last eleven outings, and the same can be said for ten of AC Milan’s last eleven matches.

With not much to split the two on paper, though, it could ultimately see the points shared. The hosts have been a tad patchy at home the last few weeks, and it was a draw when they met Milan’s city rivals Inter a few weeks ago.

AC Milan beat Simone Inzaghi’s side last month, but they haven’t looked completely solid since. So, the wise play on the results side looks to be the stalemate. It’s worth adding in the pair to register at least one each for added value, so our tip is the Draw And Both Teams To Score, which is available at around 18/5 (888sport) as well as with the most of the other trusted betting sites.

Napoli Form, squad news, opinion

Napoli were dumped out of the Europa League by a resurgent Barcelona side, losing 5-3 on aggregate. Managerr Luciano Spalletti may see that as a blessing in disguise, however, as his side can now fully concentrate on domestic matters, and their quest to win a first Scudetto since 1990.

After dropping points against lowly Cagliari the previous week, Gli Azzurri bounced back to winning ways against Lazio.

Lorenzo Insigne put them ahead before Pedro equalized in the 88th minute. A huge three points were secured moments later, though, as Fabian Ruiz’s well-placed strike from outside the box gave Napoli the lead in the 90th minute.

Kevin Malcuit, Andre Zambo Anguissa, Axel Tuanzebe and Hirving Lozano all remain on the sidelines for the hosts.

AC Milan Form, squad news, opinion

It has to be considered a disappointing last two Serie A outings for AC Milan. After beating Inter by two goals to one, the Rossoneri followed up with wins to nil against both Lazio and Sampdoria respectively.

However, dropped points against sides in the bottom half of the table have followed, and Milan have lacked their usual cutting edge in those games.

A 2-2 draw against basement boys Salernitana was followed by a 1-1 draw at the San Siro against Udinese last weekend. They didn’t dominate like you would have expected them to, and boss Stefano Pioli will see only gaining a point as a big missed opportunity.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is AC Milan’s only player on the injury list, but he is expected back at some point in March.

This will be the 45th time Napoli and AC Milan have met. It’s been fairly even between the two, both recently, and across the history of the fixture.

Napoli have won the last two games they’ve met - both with a 1-0 scoreline - including their earlier clash this campaign.

Three of the last six Serie A matches between the pair have ended in draws.

About the Venue

The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium officially opened back in 1959 and is the third largest ground in Italy. It was formerly known as Stadio San Paolo, but the name was changed following the death of Napoli icon Diego Maradona. The ground is all-seater, with a maximum capacity of 54,726.

Gli Azzurri have tremendously loyal fans. Even when they were in Serie C in the 2005/06 season, they averaged the third highest home attendance across the whole of Italy for that campaign.

A match that is undoubtedly pivotal to the Serie A title race. With the two level on points, it’s a chance for one of the pair to open up a gap from the other.

However, given the magnitude of the game, it could be a fairly cagey contest. The first goal might see that change, but with so little between the two, a draw looks the most likely outcome overall.
