Millwall vs QPR in the Championship on Feb 15. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Millwall vs QPR in the Championship on Feb 15. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

We have ourselves a post-Valentine’s Day London derby in the Championship on Tuesday as Queens Park Rangers head to the Den to face a Millwall side that look set for a season in mid-table.

The Lions haven’t packed as much of a roar as they would’ve liked under Gary Rowett this season and they don’t come into this one in great form, winning just one of their last seven games and three of their last 14.

QPR, meanwhile, look dead set on a place in the play-offs and continue to serve up some stylish performances, but they’ll be put to the test in difficult surroundings on Tuesday evening.

QPR WIn and Both Teams to Score

Millwall have never really been great goal scorers at Championship level, but their current run of form in front of goal is certainly cause for concern.

The 2004 FA Cup finalists have scored in only one of their last five games, which, funnily enough, came against play-off hopefuls West Bromwich Albion in a 2-0 win. It doesn’t look any rosier for them in their defensive third either, with just one clean sheet in their last nine games.

But QPR, on the other hand, are going great guns away from home. Prior to their weekend engagement with bottom side Barnsley (which they should win), they’ve won all of their last four away games 2-1. That run forms part of a five-game unbeaten streak on their travels, but they have conceded in each of those.

And the same can be said for recent meetings between the sides. Both sides have scored in each of the last five clashes and we’ve been treated to 4-3 and 3-2 QPR wins during that run.

So, we fancy more of that again in south London. A QPR win and both teams to score looks like the right direction to head in at odds of 5/1 with bet365.

Millwall Form, squad news, opinion

With one of the smallest budgets in the division, it’s always going to be difficult for Millwall to make that step from a steady Championship side to genuine play-off contenders.

And it looks like they’re going to fail to bridge that gap once again. They may well be only eight points off the top six, but their form is heading in the wrong direction and that gap is likely to open up even further if they don’t pick up maximum points against Cardiff at the weekend.

We often think of The Den as a tough Championship hunting ground and while Millwall have only lost three games on home soil this season, they’re drawing too many games and that’s likely to scupper any hopes of a return to the top half anytime soon. A 1-1 draw against ten-man Derby in November is an example of the Lions struggling when the impetus to attack is on them.

Centre back Daniel Ballard remains out after having knee surgery, while four players are at risk of suspension if they pick up a fifth yellow card this weekend.

QPR Form, squad news, opinion

It’s an exciting time to be a Queens Park Rangers fan at the moment, with Mark Warburton’s side playing good football with a talented young squad.

And they’ve been one of the most consistent sides of the season, sitting in the top six for both home and away form. Their form on the road just edges it, with seven wins and two draws from their 13 league outings away from Shepherd’s Bush.

But they will want to start doing something about their defensive record away from home. Yes, Millwall aren’t big goal scorers, but they do provide a threat, and a run of just one clean sheet in their last 12 away matches will have Warburton concerned, especially if they do make it into the play-offs at the end of the season.

They’ve scored 44 goals this season and there’s been a healthy spread of goal scorers, with five players all pitching in at least five so far. Scottish frontman Lyndon Dykes leads the QPR scoring charts with nine.

Warburton doesn’t have any long-term injury concerns, but Yoann Barbet and Andre Dozzell are only one booking away from missing this one.

These two have plenty of history, having met 79 times, with their first meeting taking place in the FA Cup in 1900.

Three of the first five meetings ended 0-0 but they’ve made up for lost time recently, with 19 goals in their last five clashes.

As far as victories go, Millwall lead the way with 31, while QPR have 23 wins to their name

About the Venue

This one takes place at The Den, which is a notoriously tough ground for visiting teams, thanks in most part to an intimidating and vociferous home support.

The stadium opened in August of 1993 and has a capacity of just over 20,000.

Millwall’s season is at a bit of a crossroads and three home games in February will go a long way to determining their brief for the run-in.

For QPR, their job remains the same and they’re clearly in the groove away from home. We expect them to overcome a tough partisan crowd, as well as some direct Millwall play, on their way to three more points.
