With results going against Manchester United at the weekend, itmeans that the Red Devils have slipped back out of the top four and now their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League are hanging by a thread.
Which is why Saturday’s clash with Tottenham is so important and with Antonio Conte’s men managing to put five goals past Everton on Monday night, they will look to build on such an impressive performance.
There is undoubtedly a lot riding on Saturday’s encounter between Manchester United and Tottenham and when looking at the biggest and best betting sites online, there are a few options when it comes to where to place a wager.
Ultimately both teams need a win and although Tottenham were firing on all cylinders on Monday night, there is always a sense that they blow both hot and cold in frustratingly equal measures.
Which is why I think both teams will cancel each other out on Saturday and therefore, with the draw currently being priced at odds of 13/5 with bet365, that is where my money is going at Old Trafford.
Although Manchester United only find themselves a point behind Arsenal at present, there is the small matter of playing three games more than the Gunners and due to this, Ralf Rangnick’s men are no longer favourites for a top-four finish.
While Sunday was undoubtedly a pivotal afternoon within the confines of the Premier League and with the Red Devils turning in a lacklustre showing against their noisy Manchester neighbours, they failed to claw back an Arsenal side who leapfrogged above them.
Now though, Rangnick and his players must deal with the other half of North London and if they are to stay in the race for a top-four finish in May, then they simply cannot afford any more dropped points.
With an eight-game unbeaten run now ended, United must not only do the same but even better and where that eight-game stretch had a few too many draws, now the Old Trafford outfit must simply be invincible.
If that can be the case and in fairness it is a rather big if, then United could well end up usurping Arsenal at the end of the season. However, failure to get the winning streak underway on Saturday and a trip to the Europa League could well be on the cards.
In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Tottenham, Ralf Rangnick will once again sweat on the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo and after missing the Manchester derby last weekend, United’s interim manager will hope his star asset is available on Saturday.
If Tottenham are one step forward and two steps backward this season, then they certainly took a huge leap on Monday night and after putting five unanswered goals past Everton, the pendulum has certainly swung back in Spurs favour.
Because when they are hot, they are very hot but when they are not hot, they are almost ice cold. That is the current state of Tottenham’s affairs and if manager Antonio Conte can crack this conundrum, then the North London outfit could be a late entry into the top-four race.
While after already landing one statement victory in Manchester recently, it is time for Tottenham to chalk up another and if they can string two impressive performances together in a row, then it will give their own European hopes a huge shot in the arm.
However, this has largely been the problem for Tottenham in recent weeks and just when you think they are building up a head of steam, they then turn in a performance which is even less than indifferent.
Which means Tottenham do not have the luxury of going to places like Old Trafford and settling for a draw, instead they must look at this upcoming encounter as one where nothing less than maximum points will do.
In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Manchester United, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is once again without a trio of players and this means Japhet Tanganga, Lucas Moura and Oliver Skipp are all unavailable.
When it comes to the history of these two teams, Manchester United versus Tottenham is a classic battle and the last time they met at Old Trafford, it was the latter who ran out 6-1 winners.
In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Manchester United have won on 94 occasions, Tottenham 53 and there have been 49 draws
When it comes to English football stadiums, they do not get any better than Old Trafford and although Wembley may boast a bigger capacity, it is the Theatre of Dreams which currently holds the Premier League attendance record.
With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in England, it means there is no longer the need to show a Vaccine Passport before attending the ground. Which means, match tickets are the only item that is required to be produced at the time of writing.
When looking at the Premier League odds for a top-four finish, Manchester United’s have lengthened in the past few days and if they fail to get the better of Tottenham on Saturday, they will lengthen even more.
While at the same time, Tottenham’s own price in the market would have shortened considerably after Monday night and if they can come out on top, their odds will be a lot closer to that of local rivals Arsenal.
