Liverpool vs Inter Milan in the Champions League on Mar 8. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Liverpool vs Inter Milan in the Champions League on Mar 8. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

After winning the League Cup on penalties in a thrilling final against Chelsea, Liverpool’s ambitious quadruple hopes are still alive. Their 2-0 win at the San Siro in the first leg of this tie means their chances of progressing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League look pretty solid.

Liverpool appear to be peaking just at the right time, whereas things are going in the opposite direction for Inter. The hosts are right back in the Premier League title race, but a rare lapse in form for the Nerazzurri means their season is in slight danger of unraveling a bit.

They’re undoubtedly a quality side, but this is a pretty big ask for them. Not only do they have a 2-0 aggregate deficit to contend with, but a European game under the Anfield lights has never proved easy for any team.

Liverpool To Win By One Goal

Inter will likely throw caution to the wind a bit here given they know they need to make things happen to have any chance of progressing. We’ve seen plenty of times in the past, however, that any form of open game usually has this Jurgen Klopp side licking its lips.

Ultimately, it could mean Inter play into the hosts’ hands a tad, but regardless, we’re likely in for an entertaining game.

Inter had their chances in that first leg, and they can cause Liverpool a few problems. At Anfield, though, the Reds will want to be on the front foot more, and they’re no strangers to creating plenty of openings themselves.

A 2-0 lead for Liverpool means they’re firmly in the driving seat at the halfway stage of the tie, but you can’t envisage Klopp sitting on that for one minute. The aim for both managers will be to go out and get the win on the night, and we anticipate the Merseyside club to prove that bit superior once again.

So, with that in mind, a narrow home win looks the best play. Liverpool To Win By One Goal is the betting pick, and that’s available at 11/4 with LeoVegas and all trusted betting sites.

Liverpool Form, squad news, opinion

Liverpool will be brimming with confidence at the moment, and they’re sitting in a very commanding position heading into this second leg. Klopp has emphasised that the job is far from done, though, so we should see Liverpool sent out with that familiar attacking mentality.

The Reds have won five of their last six Champions League games at Anfield and they’ve been victorious in their last ten games across all competitions (including that League Cup final that was won on penalties), prior to games against Norwich City and West Ham United.

Their creative attacking flow is one of the best in world football and it’s definitely clicking at present. Not only have they been scoring goals for fun lately, but they’ve been keeping things tight at the back, so the Carabao Cup might not be the only trophy captain Jordan Henderson raises this term.

Inter Milan Form, squad news, opinion

You don’t often associate this Inter Milan team with any significant drop in form, and although four games without a win (before fixtures against AC Milan and Salernitana) isn’t exactly catastrophic, it represents a poor spell for the Nerazzurri.

They’re still firmly in the Serie A title race, but their hopes of progressing in this competition look slim given the task at hand. The Champions League latest odds have them at 22/1 with Sportnation to qualify from this tie.

A surprise 2-0 home defeat against Sassuolo and a 0-0 draw against Genoa have followed their San Siro defeat against the Merseysiders, so the usual Inter Milan solidity hasn’t quite been apparent for the last few weeks.

This is the sixth meeting between the two sides. They met for the first time back in 1965, but their first clash in the Champions League era was in the 2008 knockout stages. Liverpool won both legs on that occasion to proceed 3-0 on aggregate.

In the first leg of this tie, second half goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah proved the difference in a game where Inter Milan’s wastefulness proved costly.

About the Venue

Arguably one of the best atmospheres in football is at Anfield on a European night. It’s a setting that has had its fair share of memorable Champions League games, and there's a good reason behind why opposing teams find it such a tough venue to visit - especially in these sorts of matches.

From the goosebump-triggering rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, to the 50,000+ faithful getting behind their side, Anfield has an unmatched tone on European matchdays.

A game that has plenty of ingredients that suggest we could be in for a pretty lively encounter. Both sides are enjoyable to watch, and with the impetus on Inter to score at least two, they’ll undoubtedly have plenty of intent going forward from the off.

Liverpool’s attacking weapons under the Anfield lights can certainly negate that, though, and with Klopp’s men in terrific form, they should have enough to see them through to the next round.
