Leicester City vs Randers in the Europa Conference League on Feb 17. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Leicester City vs Randers in the Europa Conference League on Feb 17. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Leicester City will regard themselves as extremely unfortunate to have been dumped out of the Europa League group stages, but the second prize for them is a spot in the Conference League and their opening match should be a straightforward one when they host Randers.

The Danish side are unlikely to be in battle-ready condition for this one, having not played a competitive game for more than two months, but with the Foxes struggling for form themselves, there’s extra pressure on the hosts to get a result.

Randers were the draw specialists of the Europa Conference League group stages, with four stalemates from six games, so don’t be too surprised if we get a tight affair at the King Power.

Let’s take a look at these two in a bit more detail as we look to uncover some reliable football betting tips.

Leicester -2 Handicap

Now, Leicester certainly aren’t in great form, but they aren’t having any trouble when it comes to scoring goals.

The former Premier League champions have scored in 14 of their last 15 games, including three each against Man City and Liverpool during that run.

And in Randers, they come up against a side that don’t score many. In fact, they’ve scored more than one goal on only one occasion in their last eight games. It’s also worth taking into account the fact their winter break has seen them go without a competitive game since the 12th of December.

The Danes are likely to be ring rusty, which should play into Leicester hands here. With only one defeat in their last eight at the King Power, we’re expecting a comfortable home win that will give under-pressure boss Brendan Rodgers some breathing space.

We’re jumping into the handicap market for our selection here and going for Leicester -2, which is available at 9/4 with 888.

Leicester Form, squad news, opinion

It’s been a tough season for Leicester, who haven’t really got out of the starting blocks and have had to deal with injuries to key players.

That said, they should still be doing better and to be in the bottom half of the Premier League table in February is a poor return for such a talented squad.

There’s a feeling that Rodgers has taken this side as far as he can and the Northern Irishman has been critical of his side in the media, which is never a sign that all is well at a club.

But they’re rightly one of the favourites to win the Europa Conference League and this tie really should be a walk in the park.

The two main injury absences are talismanic striker Jamie Vardy and rising star Wesley Fofana, with the latter unlikely to return before the end of the season.

Randers Form, squad news, opinion

The 2021/22 Conference League is Randers’ first taste of European football in more than five years and they’ve made up for lost time with some entertaining group stage encounters.

But their defensive record has been poor. The Danes failed to keep a clean sheet in their six group games, so the step up in class to face Premier League opposition could be a huge problem for them.

They return to Danish Superliga action next week and they find themselves in fifth place, but they haven’t exactly lit things up as far as goals are concerned, averaging around 1.3 goals per game after 17 matches.

One man to keep an eye out for is Sierra Leone striker Alhaji Kamara, who has scored nine goals in all competitions this season, including a strike against the Ivory Coast at last month’s Africa Cup of Nations.

With Randers out of action until this week from a competitive point of view, manager Thomas Thomasberg has no fresh injury of suspension concerns.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

About the Venue

This one takes place at Leicester’s King Power Stadium, which opened 20 years ago this year, after the Foxes moved from their former home of Filbert Street.

But in that short time, some great memories have already been made, including the lifting of their maiden Premier League crown in 2016.

This looks like a pretty cut-and-dry affair, with Leicester holding all the pre-match cards.

The hosts come into this in good goalscoring form and, player for player, they should have way too much for a Randers side that don’t even come close to troubling the big boys in their own domestic league.

Expect the Foxes to come through this two-legged tie without any hassle.
