Juventus vs Villarreal in the Champions League on Mar 16. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Juventus vs Villarreal in the Champions League on Mar 16. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

It’s all to play for in the second leg of this Champions League Round of 16 tie after a 1-1 draw in Spain.

It’s not a stat you see every day, but Dusan Vlahovic’s opener in the first minute of that game was the quickest ever by a debutant starter in the competition’s history. The brilliant finish on the turn by the Serb got Juventus off to the ideal start, and they controlled things well from there for the majority of the first half.

Villarreal slowly got better as the game went on, though, and their equaliser came courtesy of Dani Parejo after he was set up by a delightful ball from Etienne Capoue. Unai Emery’s men gained plenty of confidence after that.

Under 2.5 Goals

This is certainly not an easy one to predict. Juventus haven’t lost a game in 90 minutes in their last twenty outings across all competitions (prior to their Serie A match against Sampdoria on Saturday).

With that in mind, it’s not hard to see why they’re favourites, but Villarreal are a team who can certainly frustrate given their solid base.

So, it looks best to swerve the match result market, and delve into the goals one for this. Just like the first leg, we don’t see there being much action in the goals department as both sides have fairly technical styles of play that favour being solid over being too open and expressive.

It’s a Champions League second leg poised at 1-1, so there’s enough factors to suggest it could be a bit cagey.

Five of Juventus’ last six games have seen under 2.5 goals, and that’s the outcome we like here. The selection of Under 2.5 Goals is available at 7/10 with bet365 as well as with several big betting sites.

Juventus Form, squad news, opinion

It’s been quite the mid-season turnaround for Massimiliano Allegri’s men. They’ll fancy their chances of progressing here, but almost remarkably, they’re now also in the race for the Scudetto after being some way off the pace at the beginning of the season.

They’ve not tasted any form of defeat in their last eleven matches and slowly but surely, they’re resembling something of the successful Juventus sides we’ve seen over the last several years.

One of the key components to that run has been their solidity at the back. They’ve only conceded more than one goal in a game once in their last twelve outings.

They’ve been eliminated in this round of the competition the past two seasons, but if they control the game like they did in most parts of the first leg, they have every chance of progressing to the quarter finals.

After suffering a broken foot in the game at Villarreal, Weston McKennie will now miss the remainder of the season. He joins an ever-growing injury list for the Old Lady.

Villarreal Form, squad news, opinion

Europa League holders Villarreal have so far made a satisfactory return to the Champions League, and they’re still right in this tie at the halfway point.

They’ve been a tad patchy in the league this campaign, but they’ve still shown plenty of glimpses of the same level of play that got them success in UEFA’s second tier European competition.

They’re a plucky side and that was evident at the Estadio de la Ceramica in the previous leg. The Yellow Submarine hung in there when Juventus had a grip on the contest, and when a big chance came, they made sure to capitalise.

Emery will take plenty of positives from the last quarter of that match, but it’ll be interesting to see how he sets up his side from the off.

This will be just the second meeting between the pair. The 1-1 draw in the first leg was the first time the two had met in competitive act

About the Venue

The Allianz Stadium is still pretty young in the stadium world, having been opened in 2011. It was built on the site of Juventus’ former ground, the Stadio delle Alpi.

It holds a maximum of 41,507 fans and achieves a much better atmosphere than its predecessor, which was never that popular with fans due to poor sightlines and a toucline athletics track. The Allianz Stadium has no such issues and provides a much more intimate and engaging match day experience.

A pretty tight game is anticipated here. Juventus edged the play in the first leg, but Villarreal had more of the ball.

We could see a similar scenario here as the Old Lady’s recent good run has been built on staying solid, but considering Villarreal have that ability in their locker too, it’ll be intriguing to see how it plays out, and who makes it through.
