Inter Milan vs Fiorentina in the Serie A on Mar 19. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Inter Milan vs Fiorentina in the Serie A on Mar 19. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

The Serie A title race is getting more enthralling as each week passes by. Inter now find themselves in 3rd after more dropped points last weekend against Torino and factoring in who their rivals at the top of Serie A are playing this game week, this suddenly becomes quite an important fixture for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Fiorentina have had a pretty solid campaign so far, and although they don’t arrive in great form, most of their recent matches have been tight affairs. Serie A betting odds have them as big outsiders at 7/1 (bet365) for this match, though, which seems a tad on the high side given Inter haven’t quite been themselves of late. The hosts are available at odds of 10/21. (888sport)

Under 2.5 Goals

No matter which way the result has gone, all of Fiorentina’s last seven matches in all competitions have either been draws, or games decided by just a single goal. It’s a good representation of how competitive they’ve been this term, and even though the San Siro is always a tricky away day, they won’t make things easy for Inter.

Expect the visitors to remain solid and compact for the most part and Inter will have to remain patient to find an opening.

It could mean we aren’t treated to too many goals. There’s been two or fewer goals in four of Fiorentina’s last five outings. The same can be said about eight of Inter’s last nine games.

So, with plenty of evidence to suggest a low-scoring affair, under 2.5 Goals looks a good play at 7/5 (SportNation).

Inter Milan Form, squad news, opinion

Over the last month-and-a-half there’s been a few uncharacteristic performances from the Nerazzurri. Given their form doesn’t read anything drastically bad, it’s more of a testament to just how good they’ve been over the last few years, when you consider this patch is a bit of a lull.

They have just one win in their last six Serie A games, and even though they managed a 1-0 victory at Anfield, they were dumped out of the Champions League by Liverpool on aggregate.

Inzaghi’s men were arguably lucky to walk away from their game against Torino last weekend with a point too. Alexis Sanchez rescued a draw with an equaliser in second-half stoppage time, but Torino had a huge penalty shout turned away when already 1-0 up.

Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan de Vrij are the only absentees for Inter currently.

Fiorentina Form, squad news, opinion

Fiorentina are still in the hunt for either a Europa League or Europa Conference League place, as they currently sit in 8th place in Serie A.

Their form has been a tad patchy of late, but they work well as a unit, so against one of the stronger sides of the division, Vincenzo Italiano’s side’s knack of sticking around in games could be key.

La Viola’s recent form on their travels in Serie A doesn’t make for pretty reading given they’ve won just two of their last ten away league games, losing six matches along the way in that spell.

They got back to winning ways last weekend however - Lucas Torreira bundled home from close range in a 1-0 victory over Bologna on their own patch.

Cristiano Biraghi is the only player on Fiorentina’s injury list ahead of this match.

Inter Milan have won the last three league meetings, including their earlier clash this season that saw the Nerazzurri win 3-1. Goals from Matteo Darmian, Edin Dzeko and Ivan Perisic gave Inter all three points at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

The pair have crossed paths a total of 57 times before. Inter have 30 victories to their name in the fixture, whereas Fiorentina have just 12.

About the Venue

The San Siro is one of the most iconic grounds in world football. It opened in 1926 and has a capacity of 80,018.

Famously, Inter Milan share the stadium with city rivals AC Milan, but plans are in place for the San Siro to be demolished. It’s anticipated the new ground the pair will move into - dubbed ‘The Cathedral - will be ready in 2027.

Every game from now until the end of the season is pretty pivotal for Inter’s chances of winning back-to-back Scudettos. A drop in form hasn’t seen them lose too much ground in the Serie A title race, but it’s imperative they start building some momentum again soon.

Fiorentina will put up a plucky fight here, though, and even if Inter do end up gaining all three points, it’s unlikely to be done with a big winning margin.
