Hoffenheim vs Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Mar 12. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Hoffenheim vs Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Mar 12. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Hoffenheim appear to be picking up form at just the right time in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League and they’ll fancy their chances against a Bayern Munich side that have been far from their best in recent weeks.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have a sizeable advantage at the top of the Bundesliga but didn’t make much of an impression in their last domestic outing when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to in-form Bayer Leverkusen.

And it’s a somewhat similar narrative heading into this one. Bayern have to negotiate a Champions League second leg against Salzburg just days before this one, while Hoffenheim have won three on their spin as they continue their dart for the top four.

It all makes for an intriguing clash in southwest Germany, and we fancy a bit of a goal fest for our expert football betting tip.

Over 4.5 Goals

It’ll come as no surprise to discover that Bayern are by far and away the highest scorers in the Bundesliga and their away haul, standing at 38 from 12 outings, is identical to their scoring record at the Allianz Arena.

That’s an average of more than three goals per game on their travels, but the usually imperious Bavarians have been struggling at the other end recently. Bayern have just one clean sheet in their last seven matches in all competitions and have conceded six times in their last four games on the road.

We think that leaves the door ajar for Hoffenheim to have a real go, and they average better than two goals a game at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena. However, like Bayern, they also struggle for clean sheets, with just one in their last 13, while both teams have scored in 12 of those games.

So, it’s no surprise that we fancy a few goals in this one. Yes, Bayern can turn on the style and steamroll anyone in the Bundesliga, but with Hoffenheim on a run of three straight wins, the hosts should be in a plucky mood in the final third.

That will inevitably open the door for the visitors, so a bet on Over 4.5 Goals – available at 2/1 (Sportnation) and with most major sports betting sites – looks the value play.

Hoffenheim Form, squad news, opinion

It’s been a real streaky season for Hoffenheim, who have combined bursts of good results with strings of defeats to knock the wind out of their sails.

Their games are usually entertaining, though, with over 2.5 goals being a winner in five of their last seven matches.

Die Kraichgauer have put themselves back in the mix for a top-four finish after wins over the likes of Arminia Bielefeld, Wolfsburg and Stuttgart, but with tough games against Bayern, Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt on the horizon, we’ll find out a lot more about their Champions League credentials sooner rather than later.

Manager Sebastian Hoeneß has had to deal with a host of injuries all season and this weekend is no different, with the likes of Sebastian Rudy and Havard Nordtveit missing for this

Bayern Munich Form, squad news, opinion

Despite Bayern flattering to deceive in recent weeks, we can’t see them relinquishing their tight grip on the Bundesliga top spot anytime soon.

They should find their way past Salzburg in the Champions League in midweek and a run of just one defeat in eight games suggests they’re unlikely to suffer too many hiccups on the way to another domestic title.

But they’ve had to do it the hard way at times and have had to make do without the likes of Leon Goretzka, Alphonso Davies and Manuel Neuer, who are all nailed on starters and add the extra layer of steel that’s been missing from the side since the New Year.

Those three will miss the trip to Hoffenheim, but Nagelsmann will welcome Theo Hernandez back to the side after the Frenchman sat out their draw with Leverkusen through suspension.

Hoffenheim fans will probably want to ignore this section if they have any hope of claiming three points in this one!

Bayern have won all of the last five meetings, scoring 22 goals in the process, while the host’s last home win against Munich came almost five years ago, in September 2017.

About the Venue

Known as the PreZero Arena for sponsorship reasons, the Rhein-Neckar-Arena is one of the newer grounds in German football, having opened in 2009.

Hoffenheim picked up back-to-back defeats there in January, but a run of seven wins in eight before then is further food for thought for those who think the hosts could spring a surprise here.

Bayern are, of course, clear favourites, but Hoffenheim are playing with a spring in their step and have the weaponry up top to give the champions problems.

This fixture has a knack for throwing up plenty of goals, and with both sides looking lacklustre at the back, we fancy more of the same here.
